After nearly a month of wintry temperatures, we have been experiencing a January thaw here at Nest HQ the past few days, and that meant it was warm enough to take my first morning walk in quite some time. It appeared the local sciurines were just as happy as I was to see the milder temps, because they were out in force. Towards the tail end of my adventure outdoors, I stumbled onto a squirrel as I passed by one of my neighborhood’s world famous crooked light poles who was enjoying the weather so much, he never even paid attention to me approaching him until I was right on top of him. And because of his lack of attentiveness to the enemy with the crappy camera, he gets to be this week’s Saturday Squirrel!
He was standing at the base of the pole, and as I got within a couple feet of him, he finally noticed me and scurried to the other side of the pole…. where he proceeded to play that favorite squirrelly game with me of always staying 180 degrees opposite of me.
As I stood right under him, I shot a handful of halfway decent pics of him. First being the one I led off this post with, and then a couple more as he got to the top of the light pole. Curse my luck that the picture I got of him on the standard itself did not take, but I did get my first squirrel in flight picture as he leaped to the tree branch above, even if it was just a rear view of the exciting acrobatic feat…
I took a couple more snaps of him sitting atop the branch mocking me going back to his regular squirrel business before I continued on home since somebody was coming up the sidewalk and probably though I was a lunatic for shooting picture under a utility pole…
I can’t help but notice the condition of that wire in the picture above. I think someone’s been getting a little hungry….
Enjoy your Saturday!

They are so enjoyable to watch.
Very much so!!! Squirrels are one of nature’s best free shows.
That closeup is awesome!
It turned out much, much better than I thought! If there wasn’t a pesky branch or two in the way, it might be another great pic to put on a t-shirt. And I’m so glad I learned to start cropping from the original files from my memory card and not the pre-shrunk versions once I downloaded them to Photobucket. Probably lost many other great images before I figured that out….
Great pics. Very enjoyable to look at. They seem to defy the laws of gravity.
Indeed, I don’t know why Spiderman thinks he’s so special….
that close up was great
and as always, I enjoy the captions you put under your pics lol : )
Thank you! I enjoy coming up with them.
I love your blog! The squirrels are adorable, and the captions make me laugh.:D
Thank you! My squirrels enjoy being here to amuse everyone!
He’s so cute!! I think he looks pretty pleased to be the Saturday Squirrel.
