Fourth Meal

Yo quiero... aw, skip it. The stupid dog was annoying enough.

sqturday squirrel logoMy sister Nicole took this picture with her phone in the backyard of the old homestead a couple weeks ago… and while it’s not the sharpest picture ever, you can clearly make out a squirrel holding something rather massive in its paws.  That, folks, is a taco shell.  A hungry squirrel will scavenge just about anything it can find to eat… and while I have yet to see my squirrels pick up anything more interesting than sticks, my sister got a bit luckier.  I don’t even remember there being many squirrels around when I lived there…

Anyway, I figured this would be an apropos Ardilla Sabado picture with Cinco de Mayo coming up this Tuesday.  Enjoy your Taco!

Have a muy excelente weekend everybody!

  1. that was my first thought too… Happy early cinco de mayo :o) I always thought that the singing TACO isn’t a real human… he was more like a thingy made by a crazy puppet master :o(

I never thought about it before, but I think that the makers of Tron Legacy might have gotten the idea for Zuse’s lighted walking stick from good old Taco!

Meanwhile, you haven’t lived until you’ve seen a squirrel scavenge fries from a discarded Happy Meal in a parking lot. I knew I should have tried harder to get that pic….

    Mmmmmm. Tacos.

    Speaking of tacos …

Once, when I was in college (I think this was back when dinosaurs roamed the earth), I took an apple with me in my backpack. I had to be across campus from my dorm for most of the day, so my intention was to find a nice spot and enjoy my apple for lunch. I found my nice spot and sat down, putting my backpack on the bench next to me. It was open, of course, as I took out a book to read. I was so involved in my reading that I jumped in shock when I felt the backpack moving. I looked down to see a fluffy tail twitching out of the opening. And, in a few moments, a squirrel emerged, proudly holding my apple. He gave me a quick look and a final twitch of his tail, and then dashed up the nearest tree, to enjoy my apple in peace. And I ended up buying tacos off of a nearby food truck.

    • That would have been a hell of a cute picture!!!

I know, right? Decades later, I can still see him in my mind — buried deep inside my backpack with only his fuzzy tail twitching away on the outside. I so wish I had had a camera back then. Or been even remotely into photography. =(

But it’s still a pretty great memory. 🙂

  5. Amigo, perhaps the squirrel would like a little filling in the shell? Some hot sauce mebbe? Maye he is a Hispanic squirrel trying to get back to his cultural roots.

    • I’m not sure squirrels and hot sauce would mix. On one hand, it might create flying squirrels. On the other hand, I wouldn’t want to be walking under any trees…

I hope that little guy isn’t supposed to be watching his sodium intake! We’ve only had a squirrel steal our food once. Our favorite friendly squirrel stole half of a protein bar. I was just sure it would kill her but she showed up looking for peanuts the next day.

  7. I just finished watching the big squirrel in my yard finish off every single seed in the bird feeder… But a taco shell? Wow. I’ve watched them eat oranges too, but never a taco shell. Who would that thunk. That is really cute. I hope he didn’t forget the acorn salsa to go with it.

    • There are pictures of squirrels (taken by others) eating some strange things. I think of all the ones I have uploaded to my blog, this one may be my favorite…

HaHa! Lovely shot and not sure which is more freaky, Taco’s version or Gene Wilder’s version in Young Frankenstein? HaHa!
    Super Duper!
