Since I have been strapped for Flashback Friday ideas the past few weeks, and desperately need something semi-regular to fill the day since it’s one day I usually have plenty of time to compose a post, I have decided the time is finally right to share a story I teased you all with in a FF post from last September. Thirteen years ago, I appeared on the game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire as a contestant. Not the watered down, discombobulated mess of a show you see on TV these days that bears very little resemblance to the original format, but the actual legendary primetime series that was the talk of the nation when it aired on ABC around the turn of the millennium. I was on a television show that was watched by over 10 million people when it aired… think about that if, like me, you generally prefer to be out of the spotlight….
There were a lot of interesting tidbits from that journey, which from start to finish took about three and a half months. Luckily, I compiled a recap of the saga a few months after it was over, and will have that to refresh my memory on some of the details that may have eased their way from the greying brain. You will see how a socially retarded introvert somehow manage to slip onto the most popular game show of its time. You will see why I am probably not someone you would enjoy traveling with. You will see why TWA went out of business. You will see how I fubared my way straight to the Lee Press On Nails and lifetime supply of Turtle Wax instead of bringing home a nice, fat chunk of change like I should have.
I’ll post the story in installments beginning next Friday. Like most everything else I do, I will be completely winging this thing wekk by week with very little pre-planning… so I have no idea how many weeks it will take to get to the end. But I will get there… and hopefully I can make it as entertaining and insightful as most of the other garbage I post on this blog that you all seem to enjoy.
Join me next Friday for the first part of my journey to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll want to phone a friend and tell them about my dumbassery!
Haha. I can’t wait! Nice tease.
Thanks! Hope it lives up to the billing and doesn’t get canceled…
Next Friday? It’s a date. Can we skip to the end of the story by asking if you became a millionaire?
Well, I kinda spoiled the ultimate result in the original post I linked to. But if you want to read without knowing, well, you’ll just have to wait! 🙂
Well, for those of us who know the whole story, this will be a fun look back. 🙂
It will be for me as well. Thirteen years have caused a lot of the small details to slip my mind…
I was wondering if you were going to get into this soon. Hooray! 🙂
I am surprised nobody badgered me for it! But now it’s time to deliver… well, in another week! 🙂
Cool, looking forward to it!
I promise you… er, regret to inform you that nobody will be killed or permanently maimed in this story… 😉
No fair! Story now.
Ah, we gotta build up the suspense now! 😉
I am looking forward to it. 😛
YAY!
I am also looking forward to it and what critter is coming out of the bin? It looks a little like a koala but perhaps it is just dark?
LOL! A koala in a trash can wold probably be funny! It’s just an ordinary mouse, or possibly rat who I like to throw into a trash can on occasion…
Looking forward to hearing the story 🙂
I hope it lives up to everyone’s expectations!
You’re making us wait a week? *sigh* Fine.
The waaaaaaaaaiting is the hardest part!
