Colour My Squirrel

Yes, at The Nest, we Photoshop all of our models.

sqturday squirrel logoInspired by my art giveaway, for this week’s Saturday Squirrel, I decided to take one of my unused squirrel photos and run it through all of the filters I have on my three year old Photoshop program until I found one that most looked like it could have been made with markers.  That’s the Fresco filter in the picture above, by the way.  I think it makes this squirrel look even cuter than he already is… though not quite as awesome as the Glowing Edges filter alters his furry appearance….

What do you get when you cross a jellyfish with a squirrel?

Update:  All of the spots in my contest have now been filled!  Thanks everyone!

And of course, this leads up to one final call out for volunteers who want one of my shitty handdrawn, marker colorings of one of my characters on the back of an index card.  With a little help from my tireless promoter Sheena, I’ve now managed to fill 17 of the 20 entry spots I offered!  I plan to have these in the mail come Monday morning whether or not I have a full list… but I’d obviously really love to have three more participants!  If you missed the “contest” post, or just want to make sure you get in on the fun, here it is again!  Adopt a hand drawn critter today, and you just might be the lucky one to get the Rainbow Donkey!

Sure to brighten up any home!

I also need mailing addresses sent to my email (littlebeast_13 [at] for Easy, as well as my two most recent signees JackieP and tishmoon!

Have a colorful weekend, everyone!  And make it a colorful holiday as well!

Have been missing all the fun 😦 jellyfish squirrel looks more like a yarn bombed critter 😀 Just commented on ‘elf games’ post and wish I get Buster ! I so loved crocheting him, he is my best. There is a charm about him like the rainbow donkey !

  3. I LOVE MY ART FILTERS. I have two or three more sets of them on my NIK filter set, too. I can do toys, toy camera lens and all kinds of nifty analog effects. I love what you did with that first squirrel!!

    • They are a lot of fun to play around with! I found that the glowing edges one does some really neat things with my drawings…

This was the first time I ever used it on an actual photo, and…. well, as the commenter above said, it does look like a yarn bombed squirrel!

I used to play around with the filters in Photoshop, I had CS3, loved it, but then I lost my hard drive and it wouldn’t reinstall on my new one. Which really pissed me off! I can’t justify the cost of paying for the latest version. I use Lightroom 5 for photo post processing now.

    • When my cranky old computer finally blows, I’m gonna be pissed to lose my version of PS too. I got it cheap, and I doubt three years later the latest edition is really any better.

I love photo filters. I guess that makes me quasi-hipster, but I don’t care.

Nice title for the post 🙂 (really, I do like that song…without squirrell though)

I just sent you my email addy and comment on the contest post so I can be in-like-Flynn for one of your Rembrandts, dude. Thank you.

And as far as filter goes, I’ll choose the second because it reminds me of the black light effect in my dorm room 38 years ago when we sat around listening to The Doors and Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin and David Bowie, and passing around … well, you get my drift. I think I may have saw squirrels back then, too, dude.

  7. I use the ink outlines and water color a lot. Check out the plastic wrap filter. OMG you could plastic wrap your squirrels! HA HA HA. Keep them fresh! OK I’ll go now…

    Gotta love the Photoshop. 😀
