Squirrels Chase Boys

Hello, it's me again!

Hello, it’s me again!

meccamuzakmondaysIt’s strange times at Mecca.  The CD has changed again, but it’s yet another repeat.  Now we’re listening to last year’s Summer CD… making it rather odd to have a whole bunch of summer themed songs blaring overhead in the middle of January.  It’d be almost as messed up as if we started playing Christmas music in May… at least before Memorial Day becomes the official start of the holiday shopping season in about 15 years…

Ahhh, the joys of summer.

Ahhh, the joys of summer.

Oh, and of course it’s time for another sonic joy edition of Mecca Muzak Monday!  The Summer ’14 CD was much better than it’s predecessor that had been playing, and one of the reasons why is the song The Ponster will spin for you today!

Let's not make this harder than it has to be!

Let’s not make this harder than it has to be!

I’ve already featured Ingrid Michaelson in a past Mecca Muzak Monday, so if you want to read up on this fascinating artist, check out when I showcased her song, “Be OK.”  She had a second song on the Summer CD that I hadn’t had the time to appreciate yet… but after a few weeks of hearing it, I fell in love with the song… and I wasn’t the only one!  How can anyone not like this song?

From the tail end of the CD’s fourth hour, here’s “Girls Chase Boys”…

Magic’s “Rude” precedes this song on the CD, and every time I hear “Rude” come to an end on the radio, I expect “Girls Chase Boys” to start up… which means I am quite often disappointed because my radio station plays the former a lot, but never the latter…

Why yousa gotta be so wude?

Why yousa gotta be so wude?

That’s all for this week’s skimpy version of MMM.  I’ll have a couple of nice anti-VD Mecca songs to feature the next two weeks, just for all you people who think that love stinks

Which, of course, it totally, does....

Which, of course, it totally, does….

  1. I LOVE Ingrid Michaelson! We used a few of her songs from the “Be Ok” album during various parts of my wedding reception. For example: “You & I” was our cake cutting song.
I only own Be Ok, I really need to get the rest of her albums

    • They put her on our in-store music at work a lot, and without that, I wouldn’t even know who she is. But I love both of her songs I’ve posted about…. another songs from work (The Way I Am), not so much….

I’d have thought Average White Band would have the ultimate cake cutting song…

      • I like “The Way I Am” but I first heard it when I had just gotten into a good relationship (with Hubby) after a really shitty/abusive relationship that really messed me up, so the whole “you take me the way I am” thing was kind of significant.
I won’t disagree with your cake cutting song, but for a pair of young poor college kids (we got married the month before out senior year of college) the lyrics “don’t you worry there my honey, we may not have any money, but we’ve got our love to pay the bills, maybe I think you’re cute and funny, maybe I want to do what bunnies do if you know what I mean” seemed fitting for us and the best place we could figure out where to stick it was cake cutting (we thought about doing it for our first dance, but we wanted a slow dance and went with this http://youtu.be/b6Mx8G8EK_Y )

    OK. I don’t *hate* this song…

Funny aside, because I like hijacking music posts: I was listening to a Top 40 countdown from 1982 this weekend. I had forgotten that Ronnie Milsap existed until I found myself singing one of his songs *hangs head in shame* In my defense, it was on a non-country channel!

    • I couldn’t even name a Ronnie Milsap song… though that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t know one if I heard it. It’s the lost songs that make old countdowns so much fun…

      • NotAPunkRocker says:

Especially the very early 80s, strange mix of music.

The song was “I Wouldn’t Have Missed It For the World”. Generic waiting-room fare.

Love stinks, sometimes. Sometimes it doesn’t, till it does. Confused yet? 😉

  4. Mattmax says:

love stinks, *to hooly* and sometimes you

  5. The Cutter says:

As you know, I fully endorse this choice!

  6. Your “love stinks” art could be my favorite picture on Valentine’s Day. I hate Valentine’s Day.

    • I hate it as well… since of course it isn’t about the love, but the gifts. Whatever happened to “it’s the thought that counts?” (Yes, how terrible of me to say that since it’s holiday consumerism that puts my food on the table!)

My Mecca doesn’t play music, I feel cheated. Not fair.
“The Way I Am” is a good song.
I just rediscovered Leonard Cohen, love, love some of his music and confused by others.
My son just got me the CD music from Jimi Hendrixs from Monterey Pop.
    Yes I was there!!

    • They just turned down the music in my store… said it was too loud and associates couldn’t hear the customers asking for help. I’ve been inside some Meccas where you wouldn’t hear it unless you were trying to… the stores without the foam ceiling tiles are terrible for not being able to hear the music…

That’s pretty cool! I have yet to hear any Jimi at Mecca though… even back when the music used to be an actual radio station…

  8. WalkToRio says:

This song sounds awfully familiar, I’ll have to start going through the obsolete playlist in my head to find out which old song this reminds me of.
Love stinks, sometimes more than others. Stinks more during summer of course.
