My gadgets and I approve this format.

  2. NotAPunkRocker says:

Well, the black font is still much too easy to read and…

  3. BRILLIANT! The beep-beep-boop deserved a freshly pressed by wordpress today…I bet that’s the most annoying thing after the bever-kid and the wrecking ball :o)

  4. PigLove says:

Oh dear piggy heavens “Hit the squirrel’s room and take a few nude selfies”. I am rolling with laughter here – snorts. I gotta remember that one to use on daddy later… of course little pig’s room might be more appropriate – snorts. XOXO – Bacon

  5. Mental Mama says:

Um, ew. I *only* read posts on my antique desktop or laptop. My little fat girl fingers and rotten eyes are not equipped to do much on my phone except take nude selfies.

  6. merbear74 says:

    Another classic. Bravo.

  7. JackieP says:

Well done my brave squirrel drawer! I have yet to see anyone that likes the changes. You have put it wonderfully funny. I laughed about the nude selfies. LOL Beep, beep, boop.

  8. Ally Bean says:

Wonderful. Heaven forbid things online don’t change every month! In fact, I’m already bored with your new vertical format. When are you going to make it go diagonal across the page? Now that would be so cool even Generation Twit would like it.

  9. This is SO good I am absolutely going to have to reblog it. This says it all.

  10. fanrosa says:

So that’s why I have to scroll and scroll and scroll? So young layabouts and unemployables can read their blogs on their phones???? That annoys me even more than the beep beep boop, and I wasn’t sure that could ever be accomplished….

And what in the wide world of sports happened to Lil’s hair? Word Press is about to receive a sternly worded letter….

    • I’m still using the old editor (since they haven’t deactivated it… at least not yet), so I have no idea how truly awful the new editor is since I haven’t actually used it before… but it looks like a turd. I know the new stats page is a scrolling nightmare (Still using the old version of that as well), and the notifications suck the same scrolling ass. Kinda makes me wish for a huge downturn in the cellphone industry…

Yeah, blame Lil’s hair on WordPress! Or maybe Vidal Sassoon. He isn’t looking very good today….

      • Do they REALLY believe that we blog on our cell phones? That this is where photographers and artists and writers do their work? They have to know that’s bullshit, right?

      • I don’t know what they know. I know at Mecca… we believe that the customer is always right, even when they are not. I’m guessing WP has either never heard of that mantra, or just considers most of us a bunch of freeloaders…

      • It really makes me unhappy because I like blogging. If not here, then I think I’ll just give up. I don’t have the strength of character to start over … and if they force us to work like kindergartners using finger paints, I can’t. I’m not a finger paint kind of gal.

      • There’s a great analogy for where the tech world is taking us… finger painting! Too many grown ups are reverting to kindergarten (all the garbage those mobile devices can do is nothing more than kid’s stuff made to appeal to adults), and none of the young kids want to learn the grown up stuff… so we are rapidly approaching a world where everyone is going to finger paint…

      • NotAPunkRocker says:

I have blogged almost exclusively on my phone before, and guess what? The new format looks worse on the phone than before. I never had a problem except for a few blogs in the past, and then I would just…hold on to your hats…FLIP MY PHONE TO LANDSCAPE to read those blogs that didn’t auto-adjust to mobile devices. So I all BS on the “mobile friendliness” of it all.

Now, watch me take a rabbit out of my hat!

      • So are you suggesting the upgrades are just some plot cooked up by Fearless Leader?

      • NotAPunkRocker says:

No, Moose and Squirrel up to no good.

(you know what accent to read that In, I assume…)

  11. Mattmax says:

    New comic style?

  12. markbialczak says:

Perfect, Bill. Three days from now, are you going to send out a newsletter about it? 🙂

    • Sure… maybe one long, forever scrolling newsletter. I’ll borrow the TP Regis isn’t using to write it on…

      • markbialczak says:

Have you noticed that WP has sent out newsletters announcing these changes three or four days after the changes? It’s been so … tardy. FYI I hate the missing critters, but the vertical layout ain’t bad for readability, and the beep beep boop sure is hiarious. 🙂

      • No, WP never sends me any newsletters. I must have somehow managed to opt out of that. I do get annoying emails every time someone likes one of my posts… hmmm, maybe like the mailman sometimes hides my bills in the junk ads, perhaps the newsletters are hidden in the Like notifications?

      • markbialczak says:

The newsletters come on blog posts that somehow I followed at one point or another. And now I get notifications of them along with all the other blogs I follow. I actually like it because they tell you about new themes and other stuff that I say I’m going to change to and then get cold feet.

  13. grandmalin says:

😄❤️😄 beep beep boop makes me want to jump off a high building.

  14. I somehow managed to LOSE this post, so now I’m making sure I can find it again.

  15. Reblogged this on SERENDIPITY and commented:
Most of us here at WordPress have done our share of complaining about the apparently stupid, counter-intuitive, unproductive, and dysfunctional software “upgrades” through which we have had to suffer. Leave it to Evil Squirrel to say it so better …. and funnier. From Bill Brown, who really ‘gets it.’

  16. gentlestitches says:

OH I loved this soooo much. I am told my blog could be more “mobile friendly” and all I have to do is start again with a whole new theme. Umm, I have work I get paid for to do but enough of my complaining I LOVED THE COMIC. It made me realize I wasn’t alone in my frustration. 😀
I enjoyed your commentators’ comments too. ❤ Hmm where does the apostrophe go?

    • A lot of people are complaining about WP’s new tools forcing that “mobile friendliness” on bloggers who still use the old tried and true methods. It’s like punishing people who still shop in a real store instead of online…. just because something is a “convenience” doesn’t mean it’s going to be embraced by those who prefer the charms of the old ways…

As for the apostrophe…. I firmly believe it should be stuck directly into the bum of whoever came up with these new changes! 😀

      • gentlestitches says:

HAHAHAHA! Tea snorting through nose funny! 😀
You know what? I am going to keep my “quaint” theme after I read this. We have a saying (you probably have it too) “if it isn’t broke don’t fix it!” Gentlestitches works well plus it is low on the sensory input and high on it’s intended aim. There is an option to make it a bit more mobile friendly and I already use that. Wise words ES especially re the apostrophe. 😀

  17. draliman says:

Ha, Buster “freshly pressed” ha ha 🙂
Please don’t axe Copyright Squirrel, you know he’s my fave 😦 I like how he got his own line of dialogue, though.
Nice little dig at the issues we’re having due to recent “upgrades”.

    • Yes, and the only line of dialogue to ever vertically extend into another panel! That makes him some kind of comic strip pioneer, or something….

Don’t worry, I shall be “downgrading” my comic again next week!

  18. Love it. As always. Just please don’t ditch Rainbow Donkey. Ever.
