It’s time for one final selection from DJ Scratchy’s Broken Heart’s Club Band in Mecca Muzak Monday’s February tribute to unValentine’s Day. The notebook’s getting thin on fine MMM fodder… largely because our store somehow got skipped over for the new CD that’s playing loud and clear in the next town over’s Mecca. But I’ve managed to find another musical tale of love gone horribly wrong to make the new order of your blue Monday even bluer…
Despite a neverending winter that continues to bring snow, ice, glaciers, wooly mammoths, and temperatures about a billion below zero (on the Kelvin scale!)… our store continues to greet customers coming in from the cold with plenty of Beach Boys and other summer party songs from last year’s Summer CD.
One of the songs from that CD, as well as 2013’s Summer playlist, was by the duo you see sittin’ on top of that beat up Ford. You probably recognize the their names from their solo work… Jessica Harp and Michelle Branch. They formed a country pop duo in 2005 called The Wreckers, which had one big hit from ’06… and a rather lovely song it is too. Here’s “Leave the Pieces”:
What do love and chileh have in common?
You just know there’s gonna be a big dump coming, and it ain’t gonna smell very good.
Should I stay or should I go? Well, I kinda want to break it off…. but your feelings, I don’t want you to be hurt dear! Not that having to hang around in an obviously broken relationship really feels any better, numbnuts. This Wreckers song just basically reiterates the message Huey Lewis had for his love 20 years prior… if this is it, please let me know!!!
Set me free, why don’t you babe? Well, you’ve finally been set free from my tribute to skunky lurve…
MMM returns to its regular programming in March… and hopefully soon, we’ll find some new Mecca gems to add to the archive!
