Up, Up And Away!

The best way to not get belly splinters.

The best way to not get belly splinters.

This week’s Saturday Squirrel is running up the telephone pole in my backyard, using it as his entrance ramp to the electrified squirrel highway…..

Wait a minute!  Is he actually scampering up that pole, or is he….???

Take a closer look!  He isn’t making any physical contact with that pole at all!  It’s like he’s shooting upward along the pole!

Look Ma! No paws!!!

Look Ma! No paws!!!

Of course, this was just a lucky shot of the very brief moment in time in the squirrel’s gait sqturday squirrel logowhen all four of his legs were off the “ground,” much like you see in our old friend Hover Squirrel.  We two-footers even do it when we run.  But it’s a bit odd to think of this phenomenon in the vertical sense, because it seems a bit unwise to ever completely break contact with the surface you are climbing!

For showing us yet another amazing ability in the sciurine bag of tricks, we salute this week’s upwardly mobile Saturday Squirrel… who can glide through the air with the greatest of ease… and without a jetpack (though a squirrel with a jetpack would be totally awesome!)

Hope your weekend is looking up!

    • Thank you! I’m sure you know as well as I do that squirrels quite often make for the awesomest of pictures!

      • dflorack says:

They sure do. I get so frustrated sometimes when they are doing something so cute, and the camera either doesn’t capture what I saw or I hit the button and the squirrel has moved. My shutter speed messes up sometimes. It’s not fast enough.

      • Oh, how many really cool pictures I’ve missed either because of the slow shutter, or because my camera is “busy” for about 5 seconds after I take a picture, and I miss the small window of opportunity. But since I take squirrel pictures in volume, I do manage to get enough of the good stuff!

    That’s a great shot!

  2. bet it will spy on my mommas phonecalls… because they are always nuts :o)

    He’s like “SuperSquirrel” or something.

  4. JackieP says:

Dman’s right. SuperSquirrel! He needs a cape now. LOL

  5. No matter what anyone says, it is all magic. Squirrels do not climb poles. They levitate. It’s obvious.

That’s so cool. Ditto what Marilyn Armstrong said above.

I agree with the other commenters and add “undies over suit!”

I don’t think that squirrel fully understands what gravity is about :-\
