Bright Eyes

Over the past few days, Marilyn has been participating in a photo challenge on her Serendipity blog… “Five Photos, Five Stories,” which she was asked to participate in by the first name in photo prompts, Cee’s Photography Blog.  I decided to give it a shot this week as an excuse to show off a few of my non-squirrel photos that might otherwise not end up on my blog.  The rules are simple…

1) Post a photo (or more!)  each day for five consecutive days.

2) Attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction, non-fiction, poetry, or nothing more than a short paragraph. It’s entirely up to you.

3) Nominate another blogger to carry on the challenge. Your nominee is free to accept or decline the invitation. This is supposed to be fun. It is not a command performance!

Don’t worry…. I’m not going to put the guilt trip on anyone by nominating them… you are perfectly free to latch on to this idea or not.

Here’s the second photo I’m showing off for this challenge:

Someone’s been eating their carrots!

I snapped this photo of a pretty white cat hanging around my yard a few years ago, and had the good fortune to have the angles all perfectly line up to get the awesome glowing eyes effect.  I love photos with reflecting feline peepers!

And my all time favorite….

  1. this eyes deserved a song too… much better than the eyes of Bette :o)

    • There are a lot of songs about eyes, aren’t there? Bette Davis Eyes, Ebony Eyes, Sad Eyes, Behind Blue Eyes…. there should definitely be a glowing eyes song! Maybe we can get Weird Al to make it…

      • oh Al would be perfect… there was a german thingy once named Fancy who was close with Fire in your eyes… but this song is not worth a covering… probably all cats would send a big hiss :o)

Very cool! It’s when you realise the cats’ eye are still glowing from all angles, even in complete darkness, that you need to start running.

The last one is definitely priceless!

    • I’ve rarely been more excited by what I saw on my camera’s screen than I was after I took that picture! That’s my Ody, who’s also the cat with the “heterochromia” glowing eyes in the second photo! His eyes show up really good in flash pictures!

  4. Ooh ooh ooh! You caught the lantern eyes! After I saw our local bobcat hunting after dark — I swear it looks like he had headlights for yes. I mean, really, there were beams of light — like some weird sci fi movie — shooting from his eye. I looked it up.

Okay, I googled it. Turns out, almost all felines (domestic and wild, but the wild ones do it better) and some other some night predators collect light in special membranes in their eyes. They shine it outward when searching for dinner, of maybe a light snack. After dark. It is the weirdest looking thing. I would never believe it except I saw it, not once but a few times. Naturalists say it is reflection (eye-shine), but it does NOT look reflected (what’s to reflect? It’s dark out!). It looks like flashlight beams of light coming from their eyes. Rarely captured. Good show my friend. Good show!!

    • Perhaps the bobcats have some bioluminescence in their eyes? Whatever it is, Ody must have it more than most cats, because I get a lot of glowing eyes pictures of him. Well, at least I was when I was using my old camera with a flash that actually worked…

I’m tempted to post the pics I have of my friend’s cat when I was watching their house. Ultimate laser eyes in action there! 🙂

  7. PigLove says:

Almost eerie – almost ghostly – shivers. Bright eyes can be scary. Not that this little oinker was scared. No way. I’m a manly pig. I’m not scared. Snorts. XOXO – Bacon

    Laser Kitteh – ATTACK!

  9. The Cutter says:

Total rip off of Saturday Night Live.

  10. JackieP says:

    I love laser-eyed cats! I have two. 😉

  11. More compelling than hypno toad and much more fluffy! 😀

  12. Trisha says:

I’ve taken a lot of cat-with-glowing-eyes pictures but I’ve never seen anything like that last one. Both the intensity of flow and the two-colored eyes are amazing! The cat looks really angry or really evil in the 3rd picture.
