Hocus Focus

Your singing seems to have broken my camera.

Your singing seems to have broken my camera.

I get a lot of really neat photos of squirrels that are good enough to share on my blog.  sqturday squirrel logoHeck, later this month, my Saturday Squirrel feature will turn three years old, and that’s a lot of weekly squirrel pictures I’ve presented for you to ooh and aah over!

But I have more than my share of misses as well….. like this week’s picture.

Nothing like being up close and personal with a squirrel and having him look towards the heavens and open his yapper for a brief moment while you have the camera aimed at him.  And what do I get to show for this truly epic opportunity?  This fuzzy ass photo that kinda makes it look more like this squirrel is slowly vanishing due to a time travel paradox.  If you squint, it’s almost a good picture.  In fact, as a thumbnail, you almost can’t tell it’s blurry…

Now it's a singing squirrel!

Now it’s a singing squirrel!

Hey, it’s not your fault you didn’t come in loud and clear… a good photographer always blames his equipment.  For at least giving me a chance to capture something so awesomely cute, you still get to be this week’s Saturday Squirrel!

Whether you’re working or not, have a great Labor Day weekend, everyone!

  1. even the rodent world has a Justin Bieber…. :o)

  2. I don’t mind your blurry rodent, Squirrel… it looks like an action shot. In fact, I was thinking about you earlier when I saw my OWN Saturday squirrel popping his cheerful head up over the back of my hedge just outside the kitchen window. It’s the first squirrel we have seen on our property in 2 years, ever since the dead one we found in our loft, and ever since the cats… looks like they’re finally getting brave again! 🙂

  3. I have a whole collection of those. Birds, dogs, even people. Haven’t figured out what to do with them, but I can’t quite bring myself to delete them 🙂

    • I end up deleting most of mine… but this one stood as as “Hey, at least you can tell what it’s supposed to be, and it looks kinda neat!” I’ll end up kicking myself if blurry photos ever come into fashion…

Damn cameras always fail us at the most inopportune moments! I bet the look on that squirrel’s face was priceless. How often do you see them with their mouth open when they’re not cramming something into it? I had a similar experience this week. I caught Tipsy eating my last sunflower and I caught the exact moment when he saw me catching him in the act of chomping. But, of course, that shot was the one that came out blurry!

    • That’s how it always works out. That would have been a cute photo! My most famous blurry photo is of a squirrel in mid backflip… Given the delay on my camera, it was a completely accidental shot, but of course, it didn’t turn out anyway…

On the plus side, several people noted that it looked like I’d captured a picture of Bigfoot!

  5. Blurry, furry, cute. Why can I imagine him singing with your millionaire gal pal? ?

Beam me up, Scotty! There’s a guy with a camera down here!

  7. Mental Mama says:

Mom has totally mastered taking pics like that, but usually they’re of me.

  8. Gigi says:

So nice to read your posts again! Your humour is adorable, like your penchant for squirrels and indeed, squirrels! You make me laugh! Gorgeous! Have fun and all things possums to you from Australia! 😊
