Evil Squirrel’s Nest Comic #181 — 10/15/15

The Nest’s tribute to one of the 80’s most beloved movies on its 30th anniversary, and the nearing of that once far off day that Marty traveled forward to in time.  Hey, how ’bout them Cubbies?

  1. The butterfly effect strikes again! I love the Deplorian. Perfect!

“Money for nothing and chicks for free.” Wow. I remember dancing to that at a concert in Jerusalem, in the shadow of the Old City walls. Men At Work were a super popular group in Israel and I haven’t thought of them for years.

    • I always marveled at how the Deplorian could travel back and forth through time without ever blindly running into something on the other end of the wormhole. If anyone would fuck it up, though, it’d be Buster…

Money For Nothing is still one of the most popular music videos ever. Hard to believe that block animation style was so cutting edge three decades ago…

    I love your comics 🙂

    “Deplorian” 🙂
That little trip was never going to end well. Especially with the flux capacitor being made on Dinkum Island.

I should have guessed how that was going to end. Only Buster could manage to run over himself! Great job on all the names in your comics. I love Deplorian! Do you have to brainstorm on things like that or do they just pop into your head?

    • The ideas themselves are often brainstormed the night before… and sometimes it takes several hours to think of something I can run with. Every once in a while, an idea will come to be totally out of the blue when I’m not even thinking of my comic. For example, one night I was just minding my own business zoning (bringing all the items forward) my department, when I got to the insecticide counter and noticed we were now selling ready made bait to put on mousetraps… and this idea instantly came into my head:

      • Trisha says:

I love so many things about that one – that the critters are out at night, Wimpy trash bags, that is has cautious little pigadillo in it and the appearance of Rainbow Donkey in the sky (I would totally remake Hey Diddle Diddle if more things rhymed with donkey and if I was better at rhyming)

And THANK YOU for mentioning zoning. I’ve been trying to remember what that was called for weeks! It’s been 23 years since I worked at Target but sometimes I still have an urge to zone shelves when I’m at a store. I caught myself doing it a few weeks ago but I could not remember what it was called. I really liked zoning. It was my favorite part of working at Target.

      • I need you to come zone my area for me every morning! I HATE it! We never had to zone back in the days when we had a real evening crew that zoned the whole store before they went home. That shift has pretty well bitten the dust the last 10 years or so due to penny pinching…

The actual date in the movie I think is next Wed. E.S. there is an Internet conversation between M.J.Fox and Christopher about what we have snd don’t h as be ftom the show, October 21, 2015. ( Not 100% sure, though) 🙂 Funny post.

    • Yes, it’s next Wednesday! It’s been years since I saw BTTF2, though I recall their vision of 2015 was more off than on… but I think that’s the way it is with the future. We dream of things from a present perspective, but we have no idea how our reality will change in 10 years… let alone 30! Who in 1989 could have possibly envisioned the mobile device revolution? Heck, who 10 years ago would have dreamed of it? Holographic TV screens popping up out of the middle of nowhere seemed like a more likely future innovation back then!

  6. HaHa! Pigadillo is descended from an alcoholic! No wonder the future one is so sweet and sober!
What are the chances of going back in time and accidentally killing your past self? Ohhhh my head! ❤

  7. If you text, don’t drive. If you are a moron, don’t drive. Maybe … don’t drive?

  8. Only Buster. I should have guessed really, as soon as I saw him in the driving seat!

  9. markbialczak says:

Long live Back to the Future, Bill and now in your ESN comic, too. Michael J. Fox will be proud.

  10. lol poor Buster. Only he could end up in a mess like that one.
