It’s humpity hump day, and that means The Nest flicks our wrist on another Frisbee Photo Prompt, hosted as always by my biggest supporter for the Oval Office in 2016, Marilyn from the Serendipity blog. Over the last four weeks, I’ve been featuring photos I took on my series of September baseball journeys I ventured on beginning in 2009… so for the fifth and final installment, we’re taking a trip down to the Lone Star State where I watched the Pirates take on the Rangers in 2013…
Remember that 90’s ad campaign where the state board of tourism declared that Texas was “like a whole other country?” Now I’ve only been in exactly two-fifths of our states in my life, but I’ve never seen one that takes itself more seriously than good ol’ Texas. Check out that trash can outside the Rangers’ ballpark in Arlington. If that isn’t an intimidating message to prospective visitors, I don’t know what is! And making it even more classic is the fact that “Don’t Mess With Texas” is apparently OWNED by some entity, as can be deduced from the little ® subtly attached to it.
I don’t have a lot of non-baseball photos from this trip because I was so afraid I would accidentally mess with Texas, that I never left the safety of the hotel. Actually, that had to do with the fact that the second game was an afternoon delight, so I didn’t need to find a way to kill time while the maid was vacuuming my dirty underwear. It was also very convenient that the hotel I managed to get was within walking distance of the park… so I never even had to get in my car between the time I arrived and the time I bailed the hell out of Texas.
Immediately after the second game let out, a really wicked storm passed through. In the aftermath, I took this rather odd picture…
Yes, it’s just a piece of a rainbow… with no arc on either end extending towards the ground. Of course, I totally added Rainbow Donkey to this picture as well…
The 700 mile drive completely drained me and discouraged me from venturing out farther to other stadiums. So that marks the end of my special run of late season Midwest baseball trips… which means I might have something more interesting to show off for next Wednesday’s prompt. Or not…. we’ll see.
You might be shocked (SHOCKED, I SAY!) to know that Garry spent a few very unpleasant weeks working at a radio station in Odessa, Texas. To say he was not what they expected from his audiotape resume would be a slight understatement. He too got the hell out of Texas without so much as seeing a baseball game. I, myself, have not yet had the pleasure, though I have an old college friend who lives in the hill country near Austin and would really like us to visit. Sadly, one trip to Tex-ass was enough for Garry …
When do we get our Evil Squirrel for President bumper stickers?
Just as soon as I can generate the necessary funds for promotional work. I’m holding a $1,000 a plate dinner this weekend. The main course is possum loaf. Bring your own bottle… and cash only, please.
oohh squeals – Evil Squirrel for President – hell yes! Snorts with piggy laughter. XOXO – Bacon
“Hell Yes for ES!” I like that as a campaign slogan…
the rainbow donkey was my first thought too as I saw that colors ….
He had better be careful down there… they may shoot down unicorns who fly over Texas airspace…
It’s a Rainbow Donkey contrail!
I’m not sure if his emissions are environmentally friendly or not, but they sure are pretty!
Brings a real visual to the concept of farting rainbows…
Unicorn gas is so colorful…
I can cough and fart at the same time, but that’s not as exciting. Colorful sometimes, but not exciting.
I’m afraid to comment because I don’t want to inadvertently mess with Texas. I do love the Rainbow Donkey contrail!
You see, if they had trash cans in your neck of the woods that said “Don’t Mess With Washington®”, I’ll bet your neighbors would all be afraid to cut down their trees…
Love the pics of our great state!!! Too bad the Rangers went to the World Series two years in a row and blew it BOTH times! 😦
Well, blew it once for sure. Ron Washington’s probably still trying to find a defensive replacement for Nelson Cruz…
It’s all about the pitching sweetness… it’s all about the pitching! The Cardinals for SURE has that one sewn up (when they are screwing up themselves) 😛
As for the other year, I didn’t watch after the 3rd game, It was too heart breaking 😦
Nelson Cruz was definitely a huge loss for sure…
Cards were in first place ALL SEASON… ALL freaking season!!!!! And then they for sure blew it in the first round of playoffs this year, but they had a lot of injuries and even Matheny said, he lost his pitchers!
I just returned from Texas where it was very wet. Not saying that I messed with Texas, but we did manage to have a good time in spite of the weather. Texas did not mess with us. Just saying. It can be done.
Other than nearly getting killed when an 18 wheeler in front of me blew a tire and getting lost trying to find my hotel because the online directions couldn’t keep up with complicated Texas roadways, I did enjoy the day and a half I spent in The Republic. It amused me, though, as soon as I crossed the border from Arkansas, there was absolutely no mistaking I had just entered Texas. Imagery with the Lone Star flag was EVERYWHERE!
Texas is locked and loaded so let us not annoy them. Meanwhile vote for Evil Squirrel!
He will MAKE AMERICA CUTE AGAIN! It is going to be…..wait for it……..YUGE!!!!
YUGE and CUTE!!! YUTE!!!! A vote for ES is a vote for YUTE!!!
Yay!!!! What the world needs now is YUTE sweet YUTE! OMG you have given the world a new word! If I was allowed to vote, I would vote for…….YUTE!!!! 😀
Some more fun facts about Texas: It really is like a whole other country. You know, a separate country that rips exactly one star, one red stripe, and one white stripe from the United States flag to make its very own unique flag!
There’s also a unique Texas Pledge of Allegiance! It goes like this: I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one state under God, one and indivisible.
Hmmm. Now why does that sound so familiar…?
I actually took notice of that for the first time when I uploaded my Texas flag photo… it is like they just streamlined the US flag to just its Texas components!
OMG! I can’t believe that Texas pledge of allegiance really exists! I better learn it in case I go back and need it to bail me out of getting caught messing with Texas…
