Since Halloween happened to fall upon a Saturday this year, I figured my Saturday Squirrel feature would be the perfect opportunity to unveil this year’s Squirrel O’Lantern! I once again upped the ante and challenged myself to carve out a design even more intricate than my past punkins… and while I can’t say it turned out as awesome as I had hoped, I do think DVL SQRL more than meets the lofty standards I have established for my All Hallows Eve tradition. This year’s entry has been added to my Squirrel O’Lanterns page if you’d like to compare it to the classics (I actually added it Friday morning, so anyone lucky enough to have checked out that page yesterday got a sneak peek!)
It took me uploading the picture to my computer to realize I forgot to add the fur tufts to the base of Devil Squirrel’s tail (which is why it looks flat enough to be a serving table)… but I’m not going back and fixing it at this point. Once I carved out the final piece between his paw and the left tip of his spade tail, the entire cutout became too unstable to do any further knifework…
Here’s another shot at a closer angle…
Have a happy and safe Halloween everyone! And remember, friends don’t let friends give out this shit…
that’s an eggs-tremely scary squirrel, but the idea to hand out just a nut is brilliant. we have tree and I could spare a lot of moneeh that way… well next year. Happy Howl-o-ween!
There have been years I could have handed out all the acorns kiddies wanted without having to spend a cent. Alas, this year wasn’t one of them… my squirrels will have to find other things to throw at them!
Very cool! You did well to carve him out without the whole thing collapsing.
Digging him back out of the closet tonight, I’m actually kinda surprised it still held up. I was afraid I’d have to break out the super glue that never works…
Great work on the devil squirrel! I am impressed! That’s gonna scare the poops out of your neighborhood squirrels… until they eat it.
I hope there are peeps to scare! As I left for bowling last night, I saw a gaggle of kids dressed up at a neighboring house, then heard all night about how some towns in the area had encouraged trick or treating that night instead of Saturday. Why? It’s been raining since last night! Booooo!!!!
Oh, and I did remember to save the guts this time, so when the punkin goes out back tomorrow morning, it’ll be restuffed with its innards. Let’s see if the squirrels bite while I’m ready to film!
That would be awesome. I almost bought a pumpkin this year just to see what the squirrels would do to it… I’ll have to make a note of it for next year. Can’t wait to see your video!
I LOVE the DVL SQRL lantern! You definitely have talent for making one of nature’s most benevolent-looking creatures look evil – and with pumpkin as a medium. I am, once again, impressed!
There is something about a glowing design on a pumpkin that can bring out the evil in anything. It’s like pumpkins are the spawn of clown possums…
Nice job!
Thank you! What are you dressed up as, little girl?
Why, a Beatles fan of course!
Ahhh, I could hear you screaming all the way up the sidewalk…
Yeah, I do tend to get a bit excited….
In an interview with VH1, Bob Geldof once said about Beatlemania that the two things he remembered most were the ear shattering screams of teenage girls combined with the smell of piss….
I am way too classy to piss my pantaloons. 😀
Even if Sir Paul walked up to shake your hand…
Well….I might leak a little….
And there’d be the perfect set up for a Depends commercial…
“I’m not only the president, I’m also a client!”
I think that’s pretty great. I’ve done my share of pumpkind carving and that’s good work 🙂 You can carve my pumpkin any All Hallows Eve!
I can come up with some really scary designs…. like zombie werewolves, Donald Trump, and a Red Sox starting pitcher. Just let me know what you’d like next Halloween…
Now that’s one scary looking punkin….. 🙂
I should rent it out as a nightlight!
There you go! But…don’t think it would last long in the heat…. 😉
‘Friends don’t let friends give out this shit’. LOL! Too funny.
Seriously! It should have been illegal to give out that nastyass candy! The only thing it was good for was baiting mousetraps…
I’ve never been a fan of any taffy-type candy. People at work visit the seashore and bring salt water taffy back for everyone. No, thanks. Gag.
Oh ES! (clasps hand together) that is sheer pumpkin squirrelly gorgeousness! and a bit scary too. Like the Hellboy of the squirrel world. Also I ONLY gave out yummy lollies including of course the violet crumble chunks! aussie lollies really are VERY GOOD! I know because I gave myself quite a few too! ❤
You also have the best words for candy too! I love the word lolly!!!
oh and also Devil squirrel is YUTE!
Of course he is… in his own fierce way!
fiercely YUTE!
This was a beautiful pumpkin carving of an evil or demented devil squirrel! I liked the or and and black wrapped taffy candy and how you make everything so fun! 🙂
Evil AND demented…. just like its artiste!
I think you did a great job on that pumpkin…at least for as long as it stayed squirreled….Hehehehe..Spooky Pawkisses 🙂 ❤
Thank you! As of this morning, though, it has now been turned into squirrel feed! Or will once they wake up and find it…
Excellent carving!
Thanks! I did include demon wings, so it wasn’t too far off your late request for a flying squirrel…
