Down The Tubes

Hey dude! You gonna finish those fries?

Hey dude! You gonna finish those fries?

meccamuzakmondays“What tubes?” you can already picture the legendary George Carlin asking rhetorically.  Well, we’ll answer that in the next paragraph… but before my blog goes down the tubes with this post, it’s time for me to announce that it’s Monday again!  YAY!  That means I put the record playing unicorn to work for another exclusive cut from the big box CD on Mecca Muzak Monday!  Beginning this week, DJ Scratchy will be playing the fifth, sixth and seventh songs to appear on this past Spring’s extremely awesome CD that contained enough earworms to fill up a bait shop!

I’m fishin’ for compliments here…

So, the “tube” being referred to in the title of the post is the ever popular toxic waste dump of everything audio and video… You Tube.  That’s where the artist of today’s featured song got his start covering garbage by a more famous “artist” who we would also not know today were it not for Boo Tube…

Austin Mahone made a name for himself as a teen on YouTube a few years ago as an amateur pop star by managing to accumulate thousands of followers who weren’t just unpronounceable names from countries we’re probably currently at war with.  Just think about how long you’ve blogged, trying to make a name for yourself, but never became famous enough to make the Mecca CD.  Mahone managed that at the tender age of 16 when he independently released the song “Say Somthin'” in 2012… and I have to say, the damned thing caught the attention of my ears at the beginning of my shift every night…

If you’re a fan of modern pop videos crossed with High School Musical, then you might be brave enough to check out the music video for this song.  I made that mistake while putting together this post, and unfortunately, it caused me to lose a little respect for both this song and Austin.  Some things are better heard and never seen…

Hey, it sounds like two people who can actually sing!

Hey, it sounds like two people who can actually sing!

And if you think this week’s entry is too poppy/peppy/Bieby for your tastes… well, at least it’s better than that other “Say Somethingabomination song that has also managed to disgrace past Mecca CD’s across this great big world…

We shall return next week with the song that followed this one… and it’s by someone you almost definitely know, and probably even like!

Oh, good guess.... but no.

Oh, good guess…. but no.

  1. no? not Grace?… oh pleace pick Grace… pleeeeeease :o) I like this song although I’m an old bat. It has “something” and it’s a cool song for car driving… butt only when you are on the way to good places like shoe stores or to forvere21… it gives you some lightheadedness you need when you plan to waste moneeh :o)

After your amazing build-up I’ve decided not to listen to this one 🙂 That bloke at the top (I’ve never heard of) even looks a bit like Bieber, the poor fellow.

Seeing the word tubes in the title made me think of The Tubes and “She’s A Beauty”, so now no other song will measure up. :/

  4. The Cutter says:

So that song was….not exactly my thing.

I’m not a fan of the way guys sing with high, girlie voices these days but I wouldn’t leave the store if this song came on, especially since Austin was only 16 when he did this. Of course, if I heard it at the store and thought it was Bieber I would hate it! Or, hate myself for not hating it. 🙂

i liked it! A nice change from Black Veiled Brides which is currently in favor around here. 😀

  7. Posts like this make me realize how terribly ancient I really am. Sigh and double sigh. I don’t know nothin’

    • If it weren’t for working at Mecca, I’d probably be just as out of the loop on all this newfangled stuff. I went most of the 90’s without listening to new music, and that was my late teens and early 20’s! I got old fast…

  8. I love the other ‘Say Something’ ……..I can’t justify it….I just do lol

  9. Quirky Girl says:

I swear, I had never heard this song before in my life- up until today. Now, it’s stuck in my head.

So I decided to watch the music video. Then I remembered why exactly it is that I prefer to avoid watching music videos. I’d rather not have any disturbing associations forced upon me when listening to a song after watching the video, because I usually like the song much less afterward. I much prefer simply listening to a song and coming up with my own off-the-wall interpretation about what the song is really about. It’s way more fun that way…

    • I liked the old videos of the 80’s because there often wasn’t a whole lot of thought put into them. Now, everything’s done with a purpose… way too over-produced and intentionally outrageous. It’s kind of the same reason I don’t like the Super Bowl ads anymore…

  10. Piglove says:

My eyes! My eyes! No it wasn’t the Justin Beiber. Not Grace. Not the voice over duo. But the gummy thing being eaten. Holy heavens above. That is one scary treat. XOXO – Bacon
