I had hoped to come up with a new regular Friday series by the time the new year rolled around, and yet here we are halfway into the first month and I still got nothin’. Well, rather than run more dead air on Friday, I thought I’d share this YouTube video that was sent to me this morning by Jenn’s Big Guy. Since this is one of the few internet safe havens for Star Wars’ resident Gungan, the Big Guy thought of me when the link landed in his hands… so I now have people think of me not only when they see things that have to do with squirrels, but also anything involving Jar Jar Binks. I can live with that…
Anyway, here’s the video from Jamie Stangroom of a Skype interview he conducted with Jar Jar’s body and voice actor Ahmed Best which reveals all kinds of fascinating details behind the creation of the universe’s most reviled character…. like how he landed the Jar Jar role over Michael Jackson, where he came up with that hilarious, beloved voice, and what he thought about the intense backlash over a character he poured his heart and soul into portraying…
You can even find out what Ahmed thinks was the worst piece of Jar Jar merchandise that ever came out of the licensed garbage bonanza that was The Phantom Menace…
Don’t worry Jar Jar haters, he says he wouldn’t be interested in reprising his role even if Messa Binks were to be included in a future Star Wars film. And while I’m sure this enlightening video won’t budge the haters even an inch towards the tolerance side of the aisle, at least to me, this interview confirms all of the warm, fuzzy feeling I always had about the legendary blubbering dipshit…
for me Jar Jar looks scary… I’m afraid he could enter my house at night to eat me :o)
Naaaaah, the worst that might happen is he ends up tongue slapping you. But who knows where that thing’s been!
When it comes to Stars, I’m a Trek girl, not a Wars girl. Point being, I have no idea what you’re talking about here, but I’ll defend to my death your right to say it, Jar Jar. 😉
I’m not really a fan for either series, but Jar Jar holds a special place in my heart due to the first SW prequel movie being released my first full year at Mecca, and I was awed at all of the merch we got in for it. I still think it’s the biggest movie tie in retail event we’ve had in my 18 years there…
They keep getting richer but can’t get JJ’s picture off the cover of the Rollin’ Stone?
You could have posted a warning about this post, you know.
I figured the title would be enough of a warning for the JJB anti-fan club that it might include gratuitous Gungan references. I do find it funny that I apparently have Jar Jar aiders and abetters, though. One of the points brought up in the video is that those kids Jar Jar was designed for back in 1999 are all grown up now… they loved him then and still love him now!
Somebody here was telling me about the Ewok Line…same concept, if your birthday is before a certain date, you love them…after you don’t. Of course, I am the anomaly!
And actually, until I saw the picture, I thought this was about “Full House”. 😀
Full House was one of the few things my sisters watched that I refused to even take in while in the background, so other than knowing it spawned those evil twins, my knowledge of any show references is slim to none. I’m probably the only person who still thinks of the Nick show “Out of Control” when someone mentions Dave Coulier…
Yay, Jar Jar! Your new series could be called “Jar Jar Fridays” and include all manner of trivia and such about our favourite Gungan.
Or maybe a series on the film industry’s most misunderstood characters.
I’ll watch the video when I get home.
I could just imagine how popular my blog would become with Jar Jar Fridays! It would likely help out your shot at becoming my most frequent commenter for 2016…
Just imagine if your blog became the top Google hit for searches of “Jar Jar” heh heh.
I need to work my way back up the list after last year’s rather poor performance…
LOL Big Guy and I often think of you share when we share links and photos (I introduced you to him). I’ve told him he should send you some of his squirrel photos – working with trees, he meets a lot of saucy squirrels! Thanks for the “shout out” – it was the term Big Guy that made me think twice (and on a Friday, that’s pretty remarkable)!
I still dislike Jar-Jar…
I could really use some more saucy squirrel pictures, especially from up north! You have some very pretty squirrels up there…
Jar Jar was only one part of the train wreck that was 1-3. They were so terrible that I have zero interest in seeing the new one.
To show how much of a fan I am, I’ve only seen 1, 2 and 4 once. Never seen 3 at all. 5 and 6 were on HBO all the time when I was a kid, so they’re really the only two Star Wars movies I’m truly familiar with. Of course, even not being a real fan, I can appreciate Jar Jar more because I can identify with him. We’re both always trying to be funny even when it isn’t appropriate, often to the point of annoyance. I think I even bear a resemblance to him… 😉
I still haven’t gotten around to watching the prequel movies so I have no idea if I would like or hate Jar Jar. I do think those Jar Jar lollipops are revolting though!
The lollipops are just plain wrong… but I guess they could’ve been worse!
Yes, I guess they could have. Ewww!
We’re in the West, fella. We print the legends! Jar Jar who?
I think he spent a few years hanging around Roswell. You can probably visit him in Area 51…
I know I’m probably among the minority, but I actually like Jar Jar. I find his clumsiness and utter lack of self control rather amusing…
Woohoo! Another Jar Jar supporter! If I find a few more, we can start a baseball team…
I think those lolly pops would be VERY long lasting! 😀
Neverending even!
