Like your cats, squirrels are also quite curious creatures… constantly poking their nutty noses in all kinds of places they probably don’t belong. The squirrels around my parts are all arboreal, meaning their primary home is in the trees… they don’t dwell underground like their West coast cousins. But that didn’t stop this squirrel from wanting to take a peek inside the drainage pipe that runs from my neighbor’s back yard to the ditch. Who knows, maybe Mangebeard’s lost treasure of acorns was buried inside of there? Or perhaps it’d be a cool place to set up a clubhouse for him and his friends (No squirrels allowed!). Then again, there’s probably nothing inside this underground tube but a few spiders and maybe a coming rush of water if he’s not careful…
Here’s to the always adventurous Saturday Squirrels out there who are not afraid explore their world, even at the risk of possibly getting their heads stuck in the process…
Have a great weekend everyone!
that light sounds promising little squirrel… but I think you better run away… ;o)
Like the little girl in Poltergeist… just turn off the TV!
…and fortunately squirrels wear no brace like the boy in the movie :o)
You know squirrels like to keep little treasures they find – maybe a bank robber dropped a big wad of cash and he’s got it stashed in there for his vacation fund…..maybe you should go out there and take a peek……just be careful and stay away from that bright light at the end of the tunnel!! 😉
Pam
I’d think with all the rain we’ve had this year, any lost long cash or gold coins would have been washed out by now… maybe next time my backyard floods I need to try panning it.
Now that’s an idea…..!!! Good luck! “There’s gold in them thar drainpipes!”………….hahaha
I think squirrels play. Most animals don’t play after they become mature, but I’ve seen squirrels just chasing each other and apparently not fighting, so maybe if we leave a few toys around, they’ll play with them? You think?
As I’m trying to think of a response to this comment, my cats are currently chasing each other around… apparently for no reason. I left them all kinds of toys to play with, and they seem to rather prefer playing with bottle caps and stray leaves and bugs that get inside rather than the stuff made in China. My squirrels like to play with the trash in my yard as well.. maybe some of it blew into that tunnel.
HaHa! Great photo. 😀
Maybe that’s a tunnel to Oz! Be sure to wave to him! 😉
Aw, so cute! They are such curious little critters. I often see them investigating things but I’m never able to catch it on camera like this. You sure have a knack for capturing them in action. I hope this little guy thought better of venturing further into that tunnel!
He didn’t go in there… or at least not until after I’d put the camera away. I have a feeling if he tried to go inside, he might find it very difficult to get back outside….
Funnily enough I never wondered about where squirrels make their homes. Maybe this little chap is fed up with trees and is scoping out potential properties?
After the huge windstorm that took down a lot of squirrel infrastructure a few days ago, that might be a viable explanation for this photo (Only I took it back in January)…
