The Chase

Squirrels chase boys chase squirrels.sqturday squirrel logo

I haven’t been taking many fresh squirrel photos this summer, so I dug deep into the archive this week to find this pair of critters involved in that time honored sciurine tradition of chasing one another all over the place.  On the ground and through the trees, one squirrel stays on the tail of the other.  Sometimes it’s alpha squirrels chasing others away from what they’ve proclaimed to be THEIR food.  Occasionally, the chasing is all done in the name of love.  And I swear there are times when they will run after each other just for the absolute hell of it!

Those wild and crazy squirrels....

Those wild and crazy squirrels….

And just what is wrong with that?  We could take a lesson from this week’s playful Saturday Squirrels in forgetting our problems for just a while and just chasing each other around like rabid lunatics!  Wouldn’t that make the world so much more fun?

Well, maybe that would be a little too strange.  Unlike walking around looking for invisible anime critters….

Have a great weekend everyone!

I would, but gasping for breath isn’t really fun.

    • Yeah, that would be a problem. I had to do a little running last week when it was pouring down rain and I was parked a long way from the door to my doctor’s office. I hurt like hell for a day after that 20 seconds of sprinting…

It would be all too easy to catch me, I fear!

  3. I always wonder if it’s fun or some kind of “king of the mountain competitive thing.” It’s always fun to watch 🙂

    • It’s definitely either an alpha/omega thing or a good old fashioned love chase, because the parties never seem to reverse themselves. The chaser and chasee never trade places…

  4. Yesterday afternoon we were on the front porch relaxing and in one of the HUGE oaks in the front yard a trail of five young squirrels did that chasing thing in a line up/down/up/down/around the tree for a good five minutes. It was wild…….wish I had that kind of energy! Squirrels do have fun.

    • I’ve seen more than you can count on one hand in big mass chases in my neighbor’s tree before, but I generally attract smaller events in my backyard. Their tree is bigger than mine (Plus they have bird feeders, and I think squirrels enjoy their meals more if they know the food wasn’t intended for them!)

Run? What’s this run thing? 😉

  6. Yes! Time for everyone to have more fun. The warmer weather makes people and critters more light hearted. ☺

  7. The one way to confuse a squirrel is to act nutty. 🐿 Sweet post.
