Waiting For The Fall

You'd look this distressed as well if summer didn't want to end.

You’d look this distressed as well if summer didn’t want to end.

Although the calendar said that Autumn officially began on Thursday, from an actual meteorological standpoint, the calendar is a big freaking liar.  I take time off almost every September because while I’m not much for enjoying the great outdoors, I love the break in sqturday squirrel logotemperatures we usually get after Labor Day, and our average high for mid-late September is in the upper 70’s.  So what did we get for official high temps on the nine days I was off this past week and a half?  87, 88, 78, 82, 83, 88, 93, 90, 90… and as I write this post Friday morning, our expected high for yesterday and today is 91 both days.  The squirrels didn’t feel much like participating in their annual nut gathering operation due to the unseasonable weather, nor was I motivated by the summer overrun to fetch the camera and take any shots of them sweating to the heat index.

Hell, as you can no doubt tell from the lack of foliage, the picture above wasn’t even taken this week… or anytime over the summer.  I actually took it in early Spring before the trees bloomed.  But the sentiment of our Saturday Squirrel still rings true no matter the season….

Bad Summer!  Bad!

Try to have a cool weekend everyone…

  1. summer is still here too… and the sun knows no mercy it’s sometimes like 87 needles on the skin… where is our foggy and wet fall weather?

  2. It was pretty muggy and hot this whole week, but TODAY, finally, the temperatures have dropped into the lows 70s with much chillier night temps. So be of good cheer! The winds of change are blowing the summer away and you too will have autumn soon 🙂

Same here in Cornhole City…but a cold front came in last night, so they are saying temps in the 60’s and 70′ the rest of the week..you know, until they change their mind.

  4. We were in the low 60s this morning and have creeped into the mid-70s this afternoon so all in all – not bad – our maples are JUST starting to turn color…..squirrels are furiously gathering/eating/throwing out of the tree aiming for my head the acorns so Fall (and acorns) are definitely starting to fall here…….you’re just a little more “BEHINDER” than we are!

Autumn is definitely here in my part of the world! Still quite warm, 17C or so but windy and rainy 😦

  6. Peyton says:

Not yet but just starting to change. We will finally be out of the 90’s to the mid or lower 80’s. We still have a way to go.

I bope Fall comes and stays until Spring. Our squirrels up North have been unusually busy today. Hmmm.

  8. It’s finally broken in upstate New York. I’ve had the windows open this weekend. It’s 60 right now (heavenly) with an expected high today of 65. Hello, Fall!

  9. gentlestitches says:

You have had a long hot summer. I think it might have been made worse by the hot air from the politicing. HeeHee. We get so much coverage I cant imagine what it is like for you!
    I bet it is… well…..YUGE! 😊

  10. Trisha says:

90 degrees in late September is ridiculous! I’m tired of this very long trend of warmer than normal weather. Our temperatures have been pleasant enough throughout September but it sounds like we’re looking at yet another warm, boring non-winter here in the Pacific Northwest, thanks to the return of that fucking Blob and lingering El Nino conditions. I don’t think I can take another boring non-winter and another hot spring and summer. Of course, I guess I should just be glad we’re not still having 90 degree days here. Sorry! I hope fall comes your way soon!
