Every once in a while I get on a shelled peanut kick and will buy the occasional bag at Mecca to snack on while I waste my life away on the internet. Usually, by the time I get to the bottom fourth of the bag, most of the shells left are pretty small or crappy looking, and I’ll move on to a new bag instead of picking through remnants. Rather than throw the uneaten nuts away, of course I save them up to throw out in the backyard when the spirit so moves me. One such nut purge occurred last week, and for the first time ever, I actually got some photos of my squirrels enjoying my peanut rejects!
Boy, they sure were happy with yet another free meal I provided them….
Careful…. those shells have an awful lot of salt on them!
Here at The Nest, we like our Saturday Squirrels to be just a little nutty!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Great pix of some very lucky squirrels! We do that same thing here………bottom of bag goodies go out for the squirrel crew. They go nuts over them (oops…..did I REALLY just say that?!?!).
Pam
It’s true, so you can say it all you want, no matter how funny it sounds!
Your peanut shells are salted???
Oh yes, very salted. I’m guilty of licking some of it off the shells before I crack them open…
Salt.no good good for evil squirrel.
I’m waiting for someone to throw out accumulated reject Almond Joys the same way. And I’d happily arm-wrestle any one for ’em. It’s the only American chocolate bar I enjoy. Mostly though, I just enjoy the coconut and almond. 😉
Maybe on Halloween I’ll start throwing out some candy bars and see…….. naw, I’ll bet squirrels can’t handle chocolate (Or it would give them thunder thighs!)
Chocolate is bad for all 4 legged creatures. It’s ain’t the best for us 2 legged ones either, but it is sooooo good (well some of it is 🙃)
You should have left them a little “brewski.”
Pepsi’s the strongest drink I have…. and I’m not sure I want to give my already hyperactive squirrels any caffeine!
Yay you! Winter is going to come and there were no acorns this year because of the caterpillars, so I’ll be putting some stuff out for the furries too. Not a single acorn have I seen this year! Can you imagine?
Your squirrels look almost as happy as the Cubs fans in Chicago 🙂
We have acorns this year, but that’s after two years of no acorns due to the fickleness of oak trees. I wonder if acorns yields can predict the winner of the World Series? (In the case of my tree…. there is no connection apparently)
Cute cute cute.
🙂 🙂 🙂
Nuts for the lads! Lucky chaps.
All good lads should have some nuts!
So cute. I buy 2-4 bags of the unsalted peanuts every week for my squirrels. Just for them (and the blue jays). I also buy a bag of sunflower seeds and a bag of critter crunch. Yes, I’m crazy. That’s why I have squirrels hanging on the siding and the screens.
LOL, you can always tell where the local feeding house is!
Those squirrels look pretty happy with their treasure! The fall feeding frenzy is definitely in full force here and peanuts are, by far, the preferred food. Although they don’t waste anytime inhaling sunflower seeds either!
I’ve never bought a bag of sunflower seeds before, but I might have to try that sometime (I’ll bet they won’t get as funky as the corn cobs I buy sometimes get with all the hidden moth eggs in them!)
