Why is it that sometimes my favorite pictures come from shots that are by all other means complete photography failures? Because squirrels are such fast movers, photos like the one above are a quite common result when trying to capture their antics. Occasionally, those blurry, cut-off monstrosities actually turn out to look even more interesting than if I’d have gotten a perfect shot of the furry subject. This photo, of an upwardly mobile squirrel who was taking off like a bat out of hell to his deluxe apartment in the sky to enjoy the peanut he dug out of the blanket of leaves in my yard, just plain amuses me. Sure, I may have chopped of his head, but still managed to get his complete undercarriage dangling from below the branch he was using like a rung on a ladder… which you can’t help but giggle at. Once again, shitty photography meets Saturday Squirrel to come up with another winner….. or maybe wiener….
Have a great weekend everyone!
this is a great pic, not a failure at all. hilarious!
It wouldn’t win a Pulitzer, but it’s obviously a winner nonetheless!
No, but it might win a squirrel-Itzer!
bravo! you caught a super moment!!! it looks like the squirrel is on the run :o)
Yes, but it forgot to cover its nuts!
Maybe your American sensitivity wanted the squirrel to be blurred – otherwise one would have seen its genitals.
An interesting fact I learned about squirrels is that their genitalia is only easy to spot during their mating seasons. I’ve found this to be true as the photos I have with the most obvious… well…. spare parts in them are usually taken in the Spring and early Summer!
This squirrel is probably fortunate for the blur, since he (or maybe she) probably didn’t have much to show off anyway!
Good capture. I once witnessed a squirrel fall off a phone line; I’d have given almost anything to have had a portion of that. I laughed all the way down the street.
Squirrel fails can be pretty funny… and even moreso since they usually brush it off like nothing ever happened! I had one fall out of my tree once as I was taking pictures, but even if I’d have had my camera focused there, between my reflexes and the camera speed, there’s no way I would have captured it. Heck, I can’t even get a good photo of a squirrel leaping between tree branches…
Oh this is very good. I would be proud to have taken this dynamic photo.
I’d certainly have rather taken the photo than have been its subject. Poor thing…. at least I cut off its head to protect his/her identity…
You say failure in this sort. I say oh no evil – it’s actually spot on. Oh goodness – you making your squirrels do push up’s now to get the privilege to collect nuts in your trees? Snorts with piggy laughter. XOXO – Bacon
You have to have a lot of arm strength to climb trees all the time the way squirrels do! Pull ups are just what the gym teacher ordered…
BTW, my aunt was telling me about my cousin (her son) who has a bunch of farm animals last night, and she mentioned he has a pig that can sit up and beg for treats! I immediately thought, “I’ll bet Bacon can do that!”
Snorts with piggy laughter. Oh I can do that. I also know other commands like, “Go to your room”, “Get ready for bed”. I know how to fetch – but only if it’s for an apple. I know how to type – I’m up to 24 hpm (hooves per minute). I mean heck – how many hogs with a blog do you know my evil friend. XOXO – Bacon
I have a similar picture, but I just got the butt and tail. Sometimes, pictures come out really funny 🙂
I have a few of those butt and tail pics as well…. some of which have a little extra attached to them as well, and may not be suitable for all audiences.
Looks like he’s doing chin-ups on the tree limb…..even squirrels like to keep in shape!
Pam
They get more exercise than I do, that’s for sure. Then again, you’ll never see me running through the tops of trees…
Don’t mind me. Just hanging around. I thought he was doing chin-ups at first.
Chin ups are a popular activity in my backyard…

I remember him. Cute, little guy.
Well, that’s not a very dignified view of the poor fellow 🙂
Well, that’s what he gets for running around in my yard naked!
I like impressionistic paintings so I like your artsy photo. It captures the essence of squirrelness on the move. No need to apologize. Embrace your gift of seeing the world in a different way. 😉
Impressionistic, with a touch of the surreal. Dali would be proud of this photo….
What a great moment to capture! It did make me me giggle. Squirrels are such funny little creatures.
