Five More Years

In keeping with my blog's name.... this squirrel fittingly looks evil.

In keeping with my blog’s name…. this squirrel fittingly looks evil.

As you know, it’s a very special day today.  Yes, I’m sure it’s marked on all of your calendars.  December 24th every year is Evil Squirrel’s Nest’s “blogaversary” as they like to call it, and 2016 marks our 5th birthday here on WordPress!  Wow… five years I’ve kept this sqturday squirrel logosilliness up!  Who’d have guessed what started out as a lame attempt to promote my line of shitty Cafepress merchandise would have ended up becoming the epicenter of fucked up humor that has entertained the small crowd of masses who have followed me in that time?

Since that special day fell on Saturday this year, I thought it might be neat to dig way back into my archives and find the very first squirrel photo I took after starting this blog up on Christmas Eve 2011.  I was a bit disappointed to find out that I apparently wasn’t much into taking squirrel photos during the entire first half of 2012.  This may have had something to do with it, but then came the miserable drought and heat wave that lasted the entire summer that kept the critters confined to the shade most of the day.

This photo you see above of what looks like a black squirrel (but I assure you is just a regular grey in a patch of shade) sitting on my neighbor’s fence bordering the ditch was my first post-blog squirrel picture.  The data stored in the photo says it was taken just before 7 AM on July 27, 2012… a day when it got up to a mere 100 degrees, which trust me, was practically frigid that summer.

But I never had to cut the grass all summer, so it wasn't all that bad!

But I never had to cut the grass all summer, so it wasn’t all that bad!

I’m a bit surprised I hadn’t used that particular squirrel photo on my blog before, but since it predates the start of my Saturday series by a couple months, I guess I just never dug back far enough to retrieve it.  But I’m glad I had it free for the occasion… and here’s to five more years of cute squirrels and lame attempts at twisted humor at The Nest.  Now officially in our sixth year of service to you, the reader!

Have a great holiday weekend everyone!

  1. Have a very merry christmas and hugs to all critters of the nest…. and a kiss to buster… just virtually of course ;o)))

  2. Well Happy Blogaversary/Christmas Eve all rolled into one! Time does fly doesn’t it? Here’s hoping the Santa Squirrel (yes of course he’s a squirrel….didn’t you know??) visits you tonight and brings you some new nuts (oops….that doesn’t sound right!). Seriously, MERRY MERRY and HAPPY HAPPY and here’s to many more years of Nest Fun!

    Happy Blogaversary, shithead! ❤

  4. Here’s to all being here for a long time to come! I’m always impressed by our persistence. We get cranky, tired, pissed off by WordPress and other bloggers. Weary, cynical, and just plain nutz — but we keep blogging. I’m not sure if that proves sometime positive or proves that we are obsessive compulsive and need better drugs.

    Congratulations are in order. CONGRATULATIONS!

It’s pouring rain here. it’s not that Christmas card/picture postcard thing one expects from New England, but at least we don’t have to plow and shovel rain. Have a great weekend. Whether or not you celebrate, celebrate anyway. Because you can.

Eat, drink, and watch a ball game played in Japan or the Dominican Republic. This year’s foreign ballplayer with an unpronounceable name is next years ace on the home team!

    • It’s a little wet outside here as well, but at least it’s not like last year when it stormed on the 23rd and then rained seemingly the entire last week of the year for some epic holiday flooding. I’m sure Santa has a speedboat in the garage for just such occasions…

We are having a white Christmas right now. It is coming down as I type. I would rather have rain like Marilyn is having. Bah humbug to snow! LOL It is pretty and I really don’t have to shovel….if I don’t want to. It’s not like anyone is going to show up here and I don’t have to go anywhere. 😉
Have a great Christmas, Bill! Here’s to many more screwed up posts for me to read and laugh about.

    • It’s a wet Christmas here. Despite the fact that we can easily see frigid temps in December (Like last week), Christmas always ends up being really warm it seems like…

Thanks, and best holiday wishes to you as well!

  6. Congratulations on your blogaversary! Keep up the fine work. I love reading your posts. Cheers!

  7. Congratulations. And Merry Christmas to you, your family, your kitties, and all of the ESN Critters. xoxoxox

  8. Happy Blogaversary and Holiday weekend.
Five years is a long time, many posts, many photos, many squirrels…
Thank you, I have been enjoying your blog.

Happy Blogaversary and congratulations on keeping it going for five years! Some day I’ll get around to sharing my latest squirrel photos. I finally did the pumpkin feeder thing, just haven’t gotten around to posting.

    • Thanks, and I can’t wait to see the pictures at the pumpkin feeder! They ignored my squirrel o;lantern when I threw it out back with guts re-inserted yet again…. at least while I was watching.

  12. draliman says:

Merry Christmas to you and all the critters of the Nest!

  13. Happy Blogaversary! Although I’m late to have joined your party until this year, it’s been an enjoyable ride getting up to speed. Keep up the good work!
