It’s time for a Picture Day Wednesday that promises to be a treat on the eyes rather than the usual eyesore…
As most of you should know by now, I have two cats who share The Nest with me. Ody’s up there on the left, Biskit on the right. And regulars are probably familiar with the calico I call Pretty Kitty who has come by to visit on occasion. She is either a stray or a mostly outside cat whose pretty face can nevertheless charm a free meal out of me…
And those of you who really stalk my blog have great memories may recall there is another cat who roams the neighborhood that I have given the name Sewer Rat due to the way he first made his presence known. While I know for a fact that cat had a “home,” I was a bit surprised a couple weeks ago when he too showed up at my front doorstep. It dawned on me then that the house who seemed to care for the cat was now empty… meaning Sewer Rat was now permanently on the streets as well….
So now I have four mouths to feed…
Sewer Rat paid me a visit during my days off last week, and since it’s been an unusually warm February, I was able to sit on the porch with him for a while and grab a few nice photos of him to share with you. Despite the name I call him, he’s (or maybe she’s, I’ve yet to flip the cat over) an absolutely gorgeous feline…
Oh, come on…. one nice close up photo for your new adoring fans?
I’ll be back next Wednesday with something else catty….
Looks like he might have some Maine Coon in him….
That’s what I assumed he always was, but he seems awfully small for what I’ve always heard described as a large cat. Definitely the most furry cat I’ve ever been around…
Reblogged this on Espiritu en Fuego/A Fiery Spirit and commented:
Caturday on a Wednesday.
Thank you for sharing the love!
Sewer Rat Cat IS beautiful! I hope he/she continues to come around for free meals and can learn to at least tolorate your kitties. 🙂
Both of the outdoor cats hiss at poor Ody, who just sits there and takes it. I can usually tell when one of them is at the door when one or both of my cats are sniffing at it…
Lovely cats, Ody looks very much like our Kosmo. We have only Kosmo, but we are feeding two-fout cats asking for food. They must have some place, not home, to keep warm, when it is really cold. I know the house where one of them lives, a really beautiful small girl, and she is aways so hungry that only food she gets is here.
I hate so much people, who don’t take care of their pets.
Excuse me, abondoned cats makes this verbal vomit…
I really wish I knew more of the story of my two “strays”… they each seemed to have a house that they called “home”, but since they both seemed to show up at the same time, i wonder if they weren’t originally abandoned here by someone else. As long as they come around, I’ll continue to feed them… but it would be impractical to take them in like they deserve…

What’s funny is that Ody (Biskit is usually not adventurous enough to greet visitors) isn’t the not nice one… it’s PK and SR who hiss at him! On Ody’s own turf! Cats know where the food is, and now that they know where they can get a free meal, I’m sure I’ll be seeing a lot of them in the future…
Sewer rat seems to wear a collar with a bell- she or he cannot hunt effectively with that.
That’s true… though he doesn’t seem to jingle too much when he walks, probably because the thick fur keeps the bell from moving too much. My only worry in removing it is that I think it lessens the chance he’ll get picked up and sent to the shelter, which might end up being worse than a life on the streets…
Only if he ends in a kill-shelter.
I believe our local shelter is non-kill…. though I don’t know what happens to the ones that linger too long. It’s possible they do eventually get transferred to kill shelters. If nothing else, it’s kind of like being in jail and waiting for a parole that might never come…
I know what you mean, my last one I got from a cat shelter had been there for a year – and she was just 7 months when they caught her, so still a kitten.
My old cat had a bell and it was the best mouser/birder in the neighborhood! Awwww…send SR up to me…my old cat (Banditt) adopted me, I was flattered cause she was just as pretty, all white long hair except two coal spots on her eyes and a coal coloured tail! I hate people who think pets are disposable! Please take care of SR! and the other Calico is so sweet looking also! I’ve got a cat that looks a bit like SR that I find under my porch every so often, he’s someones and he uses my yard as a litter box….that I don’t like (Dog eats it, then get sick) …Ugh…. great picture Wednesday! 🙂
Banditt sounds like she was really cute! A raccoon kitty!
A Banditt! I’ll do a post on her, incredible story as how she came to live with us! 🙂
Aw, a cup full of nom noms…you do have a big, lovable heart. Who fucking knew? 😀
I’m a pushover for a pretty face…
He’s actually quite a beauty. A good brushing and … but there are the other cats. It gets difficult to have so many. Been there, done that … I always want to take them all inside with me.
Two cats is already a handful for me, so as much as my heart breaks for them, there’s no chance I’ll cave and take them in permanently. Besides, the year-long flea epidemic I endured a while back has made me very, very cautious about what I allow inside my house. I do not ever want to go through that again!
I’m betting that Sewer Rat could be a stunningly gorgeous cat– with a little TLC. Will enjoy updates on S.R. and how he ingratiates himself to you and the other members of your little gang. Good of you to feed him [or her].
I seem to have confirmed HIM since while rubbing his belly today I got a chance to notice he has a little package down there. I love that closeup I got of his face….
People who dump animals deserve a special place in hell, right next to Hitler and DJT.
My gut says that Sewer Rat is a double dumpee. I think he got thrown out here by someone (Along with PK, who showed up at the same time) and then left behind by the neighbors who were taking care of him…
Bastards 😡
it reminds me a little bit of a Lion ;o) maybe it could be the new mascot of phenny’s and easy’s football team and then they would win the superbowl next year?
A team with Sewer Rat could not possibly be worse than the real Lions, who are one of the few teams that has never been to the Super Bowl.
Aww 🙂
I hope they all learn to play nice together…
Since my cats don’t go out, and they can’t come in… the best we can hope for is pleasantly waving to each other through the door…
Kudos to you for taking on an extra couple of mouths to feed when they stop by……we have a couple of occasional visitors but I’m sure they have homes – they just like a snack once in a while and apparently I have the “right stuff”! I’m always happy to help out a hungry cat but the ones who truly tug at my heart are the ones left behind by uncaring families who considered them “disposable”…..
Pam
If the squirrels and cats let everyone know I’ve become a soup kitchen for critters, who knows what I’ll all have showing up at my door before long. What do you feed a skunk?
What a handsome pair of white boots on the Sewer Rat! Hope formally someone adopts your fur-iend.
Sewer Rat is so beautiful! As is Pretty Kitty. I just don’t get how someone could dump a pet or leave them behind. Thank you for feeding and petting them! I hope someone will take them in. I can understand why you won’t. I have three cats and it’s way too many now that they are old. Some days I feel like all I do is clean up after cats and the vet/medication bills are out of control.
The cost of maintaining two cats is already pretty high, especially with one diabetic. The cost for four cats…. well heck, I might as well just have kids!
Right now my pets are more expensive than my kids! And more work. I have to give medications five times a day. And today I cleaned up cat crap four times and vomit three times. And I imagine all that is easier than having to give insulin injections!
