Swing Battah!

This post is not about baseball… but swing and our national pastime just go so well together…

Welcome to another Picture Day Wednesday at The Nest, where the subject for the day will be the weather, whether you like it or not…

No matter where you live in the US, and possibly even the world, you’ve probably been experiencing some……. slightly unusual weather this winter.  Where I’m at, we’ve had more days with temperatures in the 70’s than the 30’s since about the second week of February… which might sound about right for someplace like Los Angeles or Hell, but not the Midwest.  At least March has lived up to its typical billing…. and by that, I mean the conditions have been a fucked up kind of crazy…

I’m surprised my cheapass Mecca thermometer still works after all these years…

I took that picture of my outdoor thermometer display late last Thursday afternoon.  Note that the high temperature clocked in at 86 degrees.  That’s a bit warmer than the official high of 74 which was recorded by weather equipment that’s much more accurate than my Mecca special, but you get the picture that it was pretty warm that day.  Heck, I was running the fan in my computer room while procrastinating on making up my weekly comic.  And then the cold front came through mid afternoon, and within a couple hours it’s starting to feel like winter again.  Wild temperature swings like this actually are common in the month of March as Spring tries to take hold while Old Man Winter isn’t ready to go away without a fight.  That old saying about March coming in like a lion and going out like a lamb was probably coined by someone who looked out the window and saw T-shirt and flip flop weather only to step in a pile of snow when they went outside…

Well, it looked like good acorn hunting weather…

We’ll ride the seesaw again next Wednesday.  But until then, please remember to beware the Ides of March!

Even backstabbing squirrels are so totally adorable.

  1. the weather is crazy… no idea what drinks mother nature had…

  2. draliman says:

It has been quite warm here, by and large. But it can change from one day to the next quite drastically. Very odd…

  3. It’s very cold here. Icy. BUT by Sunday, it will be warming up. It better. I’ve had enough of this crap. Sheesh.

    • One of our most veteran weathermen warns every year not to put the final nail in winter’s coffin until about April 15th. We’ve had two April snowstorms in St. Louis in my lifetime, and there was even a recorded snowfall in early May at one point in time. I would not be surprised if this isn’t the year that puts those extremes to the test again…

  4. No wonder everybody is SICK – this 75 degrees followed by a day of frost followed by a day of sweating your buns off followed by freezing those same buns TRULY is getting most tiresome. Let’s just spring into Spring……c’mon Mom Nature – give us a BREAK!

  5. Ally Bean says:

Tired of winter. Ice sucks. Cold temps suck. Gray skies suck. Ready for a real spring.

  6. Piglove says:

I feel you my evil friend! My aunt lives in your neck of the woods. Shivers!! And mom was complaining about walking outside here in the south in 40 degree weather. Mom is such a wussy. Stay warm my friend. XOXO – Bacon

  7. The weather here, in faraway Finland, is just like yours. We went shopping, the sun was shining, grewat, and after two hours we came bach in a snow storm. And suddenly it started to rain. But I know, for sure, that the spring will win.

    • I saw your snow melting picture… it was probably warmer there at the time than it was here (just below freezing). What little snow we had this year melted before you could even take a picture of it!
