Look Ma! No Hands!

Those crazy, show off squirrels…

Or maybe that should be no paws?  Either way, I was thrilled to see I’d caught this squirrel in “mid-hop” darting up this tree, creating the illusion that he’s just suspended there in midair without holding on to anything.  In fact, it doesn’t take much imagination for it to appear he’s hanging from that branch above by his teeth… which only makes this photo even cooler!  Squirrels are such talented acrobats, so if one were to actually attempt a stunt like this without a safety net, the chances of him not breaking his neck would be about 95%… while the probability that anyone watching this Saturday Squirrel pull off this gravity defying act would be absolutely amazed would be 100% certainty!

Have a great weekend everyone!

And be sure to check out the Bacon Harvest Party being held today by Angel Sammy and Teddy over at their blog TWO Spoiled Cats!  Everyone was invited to attend the harvesting, so The Nest made sure to send a representative to the festivities, and you can see who that was in the harvester gallery.  There’s three drawings for prizes that can only be won if you stop by and holla…

  1. That photo is amazing……..I’m never quick enough with my camera but squirrels really do some amazing things in mid-air. I always kind of hold my breath when they do one of those “leaps of faith” between branches. Thanks for sending your “family representative” to the BACON EXTRAVAGANZA. We’re having a blast.

    • I know if I were that high up in the air, my hands and feet would definitely never leave the tree! I wouldn’t get anywhere, but at least I wouldn’t fall and break my pretty tail…

  2. hhahah yay! you nailed it little squirrel ;o)

  3. Bravo. Way to nail it! Have a great first weekend of sprig.

It does look like it’s holding on by its teeth! What a funny photo. I wish Icould capture squirrels in action but I always end up with a blur where the squirrel should be.

    • My camera used to be even better at capturing non-blurry motion, but either a setting is off or its just getting old. Heck, whatever keeps track of the time and date is apparently busted. Every picture I’ve taken the past four months was apparently on January 1, 1980!

Squirrels are weird as evidenced by this photo. 0.o

  6. I actually thought he WAS hanging on by his teeth. You sure he isn’t? The little guys have totally amazing reflexes.

    • I looked closely (the photo’s at better resolution if you click on it), and no… he isn’t hanging by the mouth. He does have something (a nut, I’d assume) in his mouth… and the positioning certainly makes it look like he’s showing off his incredible orall skills…

They know when there’s someone around with a camera. They just amble around the place when no-one’s watching.
