A Is For…

a is for acorn

Starting today, I’m filling my Tuesday void with a new temporary weekly feature that occurred to me while I was out taking a much needed walk last week.  I’ve seen some photo challenges recently involving finding subjects in pictures that all start with the same letter of the alphabet… and combined with the frequent reader suggestion that I do some sort of an A to Z feature on my blog, I decided to give this a try for the next 26 weeks’ worth of Tuesdays.

I’m going to try to hold myself to a couple of rules that should make this a bit more challenging (especially for those dumb letters the ancient people didn’t have enough sense to purge from the alphabet long before blogging challenges were invented).  They are…

  • Only photos I took myself will be used.
  • All photos used will have been taken without any thought given to this challenge.

The first criteria will definitely be enforced… no cheating by using anyone else’s stuff.  Every photo to appear in one of these A to Z posts will have been snapped by myself personally.  The second one may be a bit more difficult since if a zebra or a yak walked down my street tomorrow, I’d be awfully tempted to grab the camera while thinking I’ve got a couple of my tougher letters taken care of (nevermind that the yak is probably eating the neighbor’s cat while I’m obsessing over my blog)….

OK, let’s get it started with the letter A!

My central AIR CONDITIONER unit…. or at least, what was left of it once copper thieves tried in vain to haul it away in broad daylight three years ago.

ARTWORK!  Some created by me…

And some created by others.

The Gateway ARCH, St.Louis’ most recognizable landmark.  No, I haven’t been up to the top of it, that’s a tourist thing….

And the Golden ARCHES, fast food’s most recognizable landmark…

APPLIANCE Parking Only”… a sarcastic sign outside of a used appliance shop in my town.

The majestic Wild Somali ASS, showing off its………. well……

Is it an ANTENNA, or just a radio tower?  I don’t know…. I just wanted one more to end on and had no idea finding “A” pictures would be so difficult.  I don’t think B will be as difficult, but I’m sure I’ll find out next Tuesday…

  1. Well done! Interesting McDonalds location……..McD’s gets “jiggy with it” sometimes in their designs for eateries – I hear there’s even a McD’s with GREEN arches out west somewhere. Looking forward to “B” – this ought to be fun!

    • That is “The World’s Largest McDonald’s”, which was built over I-44 in Vinita, Oklahoma. I always stopped by there on my annual trip to Norman (except for the last time I went, when it was closed for much-needed renovations). I may use another pic from that restaurant next week (if I remember) since it contains a B word….

  2. I remember the evil guys with the sticky fingers who snitched your AC… what a-hats… that starts with an A too…

You came up with a lot of A pictures! I’m sure I would never have thought of anything like arid.

That is one deranged looking with with the acorn!

    • Trisha says:

Deranged looking squirrel, that is. My typing skills are really fucked up today!

      • That’s my Scrat toy, he’s a sabre-toothed squirrel who stars in the Ice Age movies. I also have a large plush of Scrat which I won out of one of those crane machines at Mecca… and I used both to very good effect in an episode of SCT!

  4. ody & biskit !!! best fishes on de challenge….yur dad haz hiz werk cut out for him at X we iz thinkin !! theeze will bee fun postz…lookin for werd two them ! 🙂 ♥♥

My one question….why the picture of an abandoned Office Depot?? lol…..curious minds…..

    • I often take pictures of random things (which is why I have faith I can pull this off reasonably well for every letter). It was next to the hotel I stayed at, and I thought it was amusing how you could still tell what it was even though they’d taken the sign down. I didn’t notice the “Moved to” sign that was hanging in the window until after I’d taken it…

This is an awesome idea!!! Very cool.
    Um….you’re a butthead. though.

  7. We are out of town for the moment, but I’ll give this serious attention when I get back! Promise!

What a lot of “A’s”! And here I was thinking “Office Depot” was just a made up place for use as a generic shop in American TV programmes…

  9. Ladybuggz says:

Love your rules you set! When you get to X look for a kids band or at Megga Mart or Toys are Us, I’m sure there is one where someone plays/has an Xylophone!!
I actually have a photo of me wrestling an (A) for Alpaca! they make great guard dogs you know!! lol…

Squeals with piggy excitement. I think I may see a future winner in a weekly series. This should be fun. I loved your ass… picture that is. Snorts with piggy laughter. XOXO – Bacon

  11. See, what I think you should do is just randomly take pictures then find something anything anywhere that might possibly start with whatever letter you are up to. That could get pretty funny as you round the corner in Qs and Vs. This was actually pretty cute 🙂

  12. Sorry I’m late to the party…a boatload of notifications from the end of March! mysteriously showed up in my inbox yesterday, I’m s-l-o-w-l-y digging my way through but wanted to comment. I think this is gonna be a fun batch of images with some cool commentary. 😆
