If you’ve paid attention to squirrels, you know they don’t get around like most ordinary mammals do. You’ll never see a squirrel just walking from Point A to Point B….. well, usually you won’t. While their lagomorph cousins with the long ears may be the furry critter most associated with hopping, it is also the squirrel’s preferred method of travel. Every step is a small leap, and when they are in a hurry…. well, if you’re timing is
lucky right, you can get some pretty neat mid-air photos of sciurines on the move. The one above isn’t quite the best, most artistic, or even most laid out photo of an airborne squirrel I’ve ever captured before, but it may be one of the highest leaps I’ve recorded of a squirrel in the mere act of moving along the ground. This week’s Saturday Squirrel’s got some pretty sweet hang time on his leaps of locomotion! The only thing missing is his cape and cheesy spandex costume…
Have a great weekend everyone!
….his outfit is probably at the cleaners…
Pam
I wonder what they think at the cleaners when Clark Kent comes to pick it up…
Having worked at a dry cleaners before my Mom says you’d be amazed what kinds of things come in for cleaning AND at the people who come claim them! Tee Hee
Very dynamic-looking. I’m hearing “Ride of the Valkyries”.
I’ll have to put a Viking helmet on him…
Hydro Squirrel. Too cute.
All the squirrelpower with (almost) clean emissions….
The Carl Lewis of rodents. 🐿
He may have Carl’s moves, but I sure hope he doesn’t have his singing voice!
Ours must feel safe – they spend a while on the ground running from tree to bird feeder to tree. But they are amazing acrobats!
Fun for the whole family without having to buy a circus ticket…
I like flying squirrels. Talk about have it ALL together, they can leap …. then they can soar!
Just wait until they come up with the flying squirrel drone….
Aw, so cute! I wish I could hop like that. It would be fun to be a squirrel for a day!
I agree! And jumping between branches 100 feet above the ground! Who needs skydiving?
