King Of The Hill

Eat your heart out Sir Edmund Hillary.

Humans aren’t the only ones foolish enough to make a mountain out of a molehill.  I’m sure this squirrel feels quite accomplished to have reached the summit of this dirt mound at the park… looking out over all he surveys.

Actually, he doesn’t look particularly impressed, does he?  I guess when you’re used to making fast paced, death defying leaps through trees at heights of 100 feet or more off the ground, making it to the top of Mt. Anthill (Elevation: 16 inches) isn’t going to rank anywhere near the top of the most exhilarating things you’ve done in your life…… or even just that day.

Our fuzzy tailed suburban sherpa may not have satisfied his sense of adventure by scaling this treacherous pile of dirt, but he was cute enough doing so to get the honor of being this week’s Saturday Squirrel.  And that would be the pinnacle of any fine squirrel’s career…

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. mole hills are mole-te bene like the italians say :o)

  2. Darling squirrel.
Meanwhile back at my house the big gray squirrel bastard knocked over the squirrel feeder and started to dig up my window box (I’d just planted yesterday.) Maybe he doesn’t like the new arrangement. What an asshole.

    • Have you seen the big grey squirrel bastard do any of these deeds, or is the evidence all circumstantial? I wouldn’t put it past Nigel to be acting up again and blaming the poor, innocent critters…

      • Yes. It is the squirrel. I have seen him in the act. He barks at me then stares me down until I go outside, or let the dog out . He is an obnoxious little prick. Then again he is just doing what squirrels do. Luck for him he is exceptionally cute too.

Wow. How did he ever get way up there. Them squirrels can’t half climb.

  4. Trisha says:

He doesn’t look very impressed. Maybe he’s heard stories of the Rocky Mountains and had hoped he had made it there, only to find this anthill. Poor guy. He was born in the wrong area to be a famous mountain climbing squirrel.

    • We have some Indian burial mounds not too far away…. they’re at least higher than that dirtpile at the park. My Mom LOVES the mountains and wishes her and Dad had never left Colorado… so when we drove by the mounds, we always pointed them out and told her to enjoy the view of the mountains! No wonder we always got gifts inside of tampon boxes…

  5. Do you think that non-flying squirrels envy their airborne brothers and sisters? Climbing and leaping is cool enough, but then parachuting to the next bunch of trees, well, there isn’t anything much cooler than THAT!
