Retro Nest Comic – February 13, 2014

Even in my comic’s short 63 month history I could probably fill a book with the number of strips I did poking fun at the ridiculousness the social media/smartphone revolution has unleashed on the sheep of the world.  Here’s one of my favorites from three years ago.  The poster in the last panel was part of a running gag I had going with C.K. Hope, who would easily be in my Top 5 of no longer active bloggers who I miss the hell out of.  This was Comic #94

  1. Oh that is a great idea… bet the police officers have tons of fun when they check our papers ;o)

  2. Lol I’d dread to think of some of my selfies turning up on a licence

  3. …blockin’ out the SCENERY, breakin’ my mind. Now I have that silly song sick in my head and it wasn’t even an ear worm day! LOL! 🤣

  4. Trisha says:

Lol! Great idea! I love the look on Evil Squirrel’s face in the last two panels where he knows she’s going to flip out over her photo.

ID photos are the worst. I look like I’m really, really, really surprised in my driver’s license photo. My oldest just got a passport and when it came he said, “oh my god, I look like a murderer. They’re going to take one look at this and put me on the no fly list!” In some cases, selfie photos might be an improvement!

    • There’s something about that photo machine at the DMV that makes every photo look hideous. Now that my state’s so broke that it’s renewing licenses through the mail, they just plastered my old photo on my new license… so I’ll get to look like a creep for the rest of my life!

  5. draliman says:

Only ran over one possum? Just the one? FAIL!

  6. What a GREAT idea! They aren’t doing it yet, but I can see it coming. Yes!

    • It would be extremely efficient, which in itself might doom a govt. agency from ever adopting it. And since I am one of maybe three people left in the world who have never taken a selfie before, almost everyone would qualify for this new program…

  7. Why oh why do so many people look (a) drunk, (b) insane, or (c) like a prisoner getting an ID in their drivers license photos/passport photos???? Maybe because by the time they finally take our photos we’re sick and tired of sitting around WAITING our turn for hours on end? OR – maybe because we ARE drunk, insane or escaped prisoners????

    • It could be either… or a third theory! Remember that little pterodactyl that would “sketch” the photos inside of the camera on The Flintstones? I think there’s a gremlin with a warped sense of humor inside of those DMV cameras….

  8. {snort} Our DMV used my photo for 2 license cycles which was 10 years. The photo was taken when I played softball twice a week and had super short hair. Whenever I had to show my ID at the airport, the TSA guy would look at the pic, look at me (with Rapunzel-length hair now) and do a couple more double takes. To speed up the ensuing line behind me, I’d always say “I’m so much better looking in real life, aren’t I?” Surprising how they’d quickly send me through the line then. Bwahaha!

  9. So glad everyone has the same problem with passport/ID photos. I generally only take selfies after a run to prove I’ve been running, which I think would invalidate them from being used for ID due to wearing a cap. Phew!

    • Oh, and did you hear about the idiots who saw a picture of an empty bus and thought it was full of muslim women in full burka/hijabi/whatever the proper name for the fully-covering garment that covers the face is? Now that could make an amusing cartoon…
