I don’t have a lot to say about this week’s Saturday Squirrel photo other than I think it looks rather cool for some reason. Sure, almost all squirrel photos look cool because….. well, they have squirrels in them! And squirrels are awesome. I like the way he’s walking across this branch with his body in an almost straight, but slightly diagonal line from nose to tail.
And of course that ear notch, the body modification which so many of the park squirrels have. No wonder he’s strutting around like a badass…. he IS a badass! And now, he’s got an audience to bask in his badassery…
Have a great weekend everyone!
the tail looks a little like a chainsaw…hope his name isn’t thomas ;o)
He might wear a hockey mask for Halloween. The cats better steer clear of his tail…
He does look like a man on a mission!

Places to go, squirrels to see, fans to impress….
He knows you’re there, he’s strutting for the camera…
Most of the squirrels who see me are more likely to strut their mouth for the camera… as well as flaunt their throwing arms.
He’s definitely a bad ass. That looks like a big chunk of ear missing. I wonder if the ear ripping is so intentional that squirrels say things like, “say that again and I’ll rip your ear!!”
What would they do when they ran out of ear space to rip? Maybe start with tail notches? That would look cute…
I hope they don’t resort to tail-stripping. We’ve got one with a super-skinny rat tail. The poor thing won’t have an umbrella when it rains!
He’s either a BADASS or came up a couple acorns short in an altercation with one. Either way, hope yours is a great weekend!
He probably tells everyone he got that in a fight with a cat, or a hawk, or a coyote…. and lived to tell about it!
He looks very sleek, tail up in the wind. I bet he’s a fast leaper, too!
Perhaps the tail operates as a helicopter blade and he’s really a secret squirrel drone. Might be why he seems unnerved that I got his picture…
Dude, squirrels ARE awesome! My childhood home contained a large walnut tree in the backyard, and the kitchen windows happened to face that tree directly. So many hours were spent absent-mindedly preparing coffee whilst watching squirrels chase each other…and outsmart the neighborhood cats.
They are fun to watch and even more fun to photograph! I’ve taken thousands of pictures of squirrels over the last few years, and they always give me something I’d never captured before…
Apparently North American grey squirrels are wicked smart too. I don’t know much about the red ones though, because I never lived in areas where they were abundant.
He was a Retriever in a former life and he’s pointing out his find for his master, forgetting momentarily that he is now the master of his domain, and the discovery is just for him!
