I have been trying to get out from behind the computer on mornings I don’t work and take a walk on the bike trail near my house, given how slothlike and unhealthy my habits have become when I’m not on the Mecca chain gang. Yesterday morning my walk was interrupted when I noticed the “squirrel highway” that runs along the trail had a speeder on it coming in my direction. By the time I fished my camera out of my pocket and got the thing turned on, he was already directly above me…. and conveniently, mostly hidden by a telephone pole, as you can see from my first photo above…
If you look closely, you can see why he’s in such a hurry to get the hell out of Dodge. He’s got what looks like an acorn in his mouth…. and he probably doesn’t want anyone to know he stole it!
Even in my blurry second photo, you can still make out the protruding acorn as he scurries along faster than the Flying Wallendas would have ever dared on the tightrope. Hey, I’m not going to snitch on you! I just want some cool, close up shots of you running along a wire for this week’s Saturday Squirrel! Come back!!!!
Oh well….. have a great weekend everyone!
Squirrels are so great, I see their higway from my window. It is incredible how they walk on a wire!
Not just walk, but run on a wire! It’s amazing balance and coordination…
I miss my old squirrel highway that I had outside of my apartment window, free entertainment.
You used that term before in one of my posts, and that’s probably where I picked it up from…
I betcha you’re right, I do have the best names for shit, don’t I?
Pretty cute. Had one in my hood that was trying to escape along a cable write and slipped and fell about 15 feet. Popped up, shook his bad little self off and dashed away no worse for the wear. Those little buggers are nothing if not resilient. Have a great weekend.
Ugh…make that cable wire, not cable write. Damn auto-correct.
Double HA because I typoed NEST in my reply!
Ha! Reminds me of George Carlin’s skit on cats being to proud to show pain. I’ll bet he went back to his next and moaned in agony the rest of the day!
They are fast little boogers aren’t they!!
Pam
He didn’t give me much time to react. I’m pretty sure he was running faster on that wire than I can manage on solid ground…
Aww, I miss seeing squirrels.
It’s criminal not to be able to see squirrels! At least you’ll always have Saturdays here…
Fast mover, that little guy!
I wouldn’t be able to run that fast on a thin wire…
Wow, that little guy can move.
The faster he moves, the less time he has to think about what will happen if one of his legs slips…
He looks like he’s really hauling ass along that wire! They are such amazing little critters. We don’t have any oak trees that make big acorns so I never get to see them carry anything that big.
