The Year In Pictures

My photography is even crazier than a fox.

Next week I’ll have a new special series lined up for my open Thursday schedule on The Nest… but for now, after reading Marilyn’s post this morning about her favorite photos she’d taken in 2017, I thought that might make a nice blog filler for today.  Some of these photos will show up again during my year end retrospective on Sunday… but others would not have gotten the chance to take another bow.  So, for your visual delight, here is a quickly thrown together collection of my favorite photos I took over the past year…

Yummy leaves!

Though some squirrels prefer human food.

Squirrel among the Spring blooms!

Sewie!!!

This year’s squirrel o’lantern!

Unintentional ice sculpture in my neighbor’s yard during Christmas.

A night visitor back in May that was undetermined, and very hard to find.  But once you see the nose and muzzle in the lower right of that circle, you can’t unsee it.

“Squirrel” in the sky taken during August’s solar eclipse.

Mitzi and eggs. We’ll find out what’s in them tomorrow!

Biskit demanding some attention.

A donkey figure that was in my neighbor’s yard for only a day.

Rainy Skunk actually serving her true purpose during a very wet mid-Spring.

Sunrise photo that spawned a red UFO!

Deflated inflatables that looks like a holiday massacre scene.

And my favorite photo from 2017….

The legendary Batsquirrel!

  1. I ALWAYS reuse pictures 🙂 If I like them enough to post them, I like them enough to post them again 🙂

I still can’t figure out what the critter is on that lawn. Unless it’s a mole?

That last squirrel is crazy. How did he DO that? I know they have claws … but that’s a lot of hanging on!

Happier New Year! Hoping this is a good’un!

    • Reusing photos saves a lot of server space, and brings some familiarity to any blog.

The critter photo was taken in the middle of the night. I tried to put it through a night vision filter to make it appear more clear what I had noticed in the original dark photo, but wasn’t very successful.

I have no explanation for how that squirrel is hanging there. And that’s a good 100 feet or so off the ground. Yikes!

  2. Oh yeah…..love all of these but that Batsquirrel is definitely something special. It’s one of those “once in a lifetime” captures on film. I’ve seen a lot of weird stuff from our squirrels around here but not one trying out for the Cirque De Squirrele’ !

    • I didn’t even notice Batsquirrel from the ground… I was following another squirrel with my camera and just happened to pan across him! Not only a once in a lifetime photo, but a complete fluke that I got it! It is the most daredevil squirrel I have ever seen!

  3. A nice review in pics of 2017. Here’s to a pawsome 2018 where we’re looking forward to more visual deposits of totally cool photos. Cheers.

What the hell is that thing in the grass?? A Racoon?? and yes, got to love the Bat Squirrel! Hoping for lots more weird photo’s next year!! 🙂

  5. The batsquirrel is my favorite, very cool!

The last picture is amazing! You should enter it in a contest or something!

  7. draliman says:

Cool! Batsquirrel is good but my favourite is “squirrel in the sky”.

  8. Of course Batsquirrel is a shoo-in. But why is the first squirrel eating leaves? Is he on a nut free diet? Perplexed squirrels wanna know? Also wanna know who your night visitor was.

    • I don’t know what caused that squirrel to chew on that leaf…. he wouldn’t tell me. I would love to know what the night visitor was, but that’s what I get for forgetting to keep the battery in my flash camera charged up…
