Talk Talk

Oh yeah? Well, your nuts are tiny too!!!

Squirrels are talkers…. have you noticed?  What exactly the squirrel says is about as mysterious as the infamous fox, but they can definitely bicker and yell with the best of critters.  I can always tell when Sewie’s prowling around my yard, because the squirrels will be up in arms about his presence…. as well they should be for their very survival.

That said, it is very rare for me to get a photograph of a squirrel with his mouth agape.  Sure, I have lots of pictures of them with nuts of all sizes crammed between their jaws… but it’s uncommon enough for it to strike me as odd when I see a picture of an open mouthed squirrel with nothing in its teeth.  I wonder what he’s yakking about?  Maybe he’s upset that this past Halloween’s squirrel o’lantern that he’s perched upon has already been emptied of all the good stuff.  Eh, go on ahead and shout it out loud and proud, buddy…. your yapper just got you the honor of being this week’s Saturday Squirrel!

Have a great weekend everyone!

    Cute!
“Argh, it’s that crazy two-legs with his camera again.”

  2. “I have not given you permission to take my photograph”!!

  3. Back in the family homestead, our flat roof next to my room was the daily scene for the Great Battle of the Crows and the Squirrels. At about 4 in the morning, they would approach, one army from each side, then stand on opposite sides of the eave screaming at each other. No one DID anything, mind you. Just endless yelling.

I remember my little nine-year-old me shouting out the window “SHUT UP AND GO AWAY!” They did NOT listen.

  4. I think that guy is laughing……no doubt we humans are as entertaining to THEM as they are to US!

  5. The hoodlums squatting in my large maple tree bark at me and the dogs all the time in a verbal middle finger no doubt. It’s impressive you caught one in the act. Well done!

So cute! His expression makes me think maybe he was annoyed and yelling some squirrel profanity!

They not only talk, they yell! If they get to scolding me for some perceived infraction of their space, it goes on for a looong time. I’ve been busy leaving treats for them – we got 8 inches of snow and they are hungry.
