If the ever prescient (LOL) forecasters are right, there will be snow on the ground when this post goes live Monday morning. Wha…? It’s been 21 years since this part of the planet has had snow on the ground when the calendar is showing a photo of Miss April on top of it. Oh well, I won’t be digging out of any snow since I’m morally opposed to shoveling the crap… but I will dig this lost hit. Yes, it’s Monday, and that means it’s time for The Nest to unbury another song that’s slightly out of season from that yellowed snowbank we like to call the Dusty Vinyl Archive! DJ Scratchy’s covering up the tender vegetation as we speak, while the Sponkies build a snowman beside the tulips. Keep the earmuffs handy…
The Boston based 80’s band Face To Face is not particularly one of the most well known bands in the world. The content on their Wikipedia page is laughably slim, and a punk group that had more success later came along and stole their name without a single peep out of anyone. This was despite the fact that the members of the original Face To Face appeared in the cult 1984 film Streets Of Fire, and they even had a borderline Top 40 hit the very same year…
That 1984 song by the band had a video that got a lot of airplay on MTV during the first year I had access to the 24 hour music video channel. Here’s the very lost #38 hit by (the original) Face To Face, “10-9-8″…
It takes a little bit for this one to really get rolling, but it’s a pretty nice lost piece of 80’s nostalgia. They even had enough in the video budget to spring for some cheesy special effects that were a must in any mid-80’s video… like only coloring in certain items to make it look like a little Oz came back with Dorothy. We’re sure this song is better than anything done by the 90’s band Face To Face, and is maybe even better than the Pete Townshend song “Face The Face“… but even we have to admit it doesn’t top this epic face to face…
I’ll be back next week with another lost tune, if I don’t get buried in a blizzard before then….
oh I remember… all girls wanted the same hairstyle like Laurie… and they all ended un-laurie-ated…
All the girls wants short hair and all the boys wanted long hair in the 80’s. It was a weird time…
Have never heard this one before but it definitely does have that 80s look and sound. So did any of the members of this group wind up staying in the music biz or did they fade into oblivion like so many other groups did and have done and will do ever after?!
Pam
One of the three paragraphs that make up their Wiki article does sum up the group’s post-breakup career. Most of them are in other bands or producing for others. None of them are working at McDonalds, at least…
That’s encouraging….no McDonalds and no bathroom attendants among them which is a good thing.
OMP! Don’t know this song and it’s probably a good thing. However, it was pretty hard to get through your entire posting. That snow part had me like WTP!? Snow in April. You’ve got to be kidding. Mother Nature is so out of whack. XOXO – Bacon
Yep, real snow on April 1st of all days! But then it started raining again, so I knew things were back to normal (PS, send an ark, please!)
Working on that ark right as we speak for you. It should only take me maybe like another 365 days to finish it. Snorts and rolls with piggy laughter. XOXO – Bacon
Nope, never heard this group or the cut. Egads I’m beginning to think I must have lived the 80’s in a sheltered snowbank. Stay warm today.
Not a very well known band or song… you just had to be watching MTV at the right time as I was. There’s lots of weird stuff buried under the 80’s crawlspace…
Working and going to school full time, I guess so. And if Martha Quinn didn’t play it, I never saw it. ☺️
I think I would have loved that song, if I had ever heard it back in the day! We got a dusting of snow overnight but it’s already melting. It’s not unusual for us. We can usually expect some form of cold, wet precipitation the first week of April. I hope you don’t get so much snow that you have to break out the shovel!
Naw. If I get around to it, I’ll have a photo up later today, but it was just enough to make it look like some snow fell. Then the rain (Actually, a thunderstorm) came back with a vengeance last night and washed it all away. We have had your constantly rainy weather on steroids the past month….
ody N biskit; we will give thiz one a listen two….we haz never hurd oh thiz songz but we DUE nap a lot……N we hope if ya did getz snowz…..itz gone ~~~~~~
🙂 ♥♥
The snow is gone, but now it’s just wet again. I don’t think it’s ever going to stop raining…
It snows here this morning. Not a lot and it melted by afternoon, but they got a lot more in New York. I’m hoping that THIS TIME winter is really over.
I was hoping the snow would be what finally brought this nasty, rainy early Spring to an end…. but no. We got a thunderstorm last night with the temperature hovering around 40 degrees. Mosquito season is going to be horrid this summer if it ever actually warms up enough for it…
I know I’m a horrible person but… I couldn’t tell at first if the singer was a girl or a boy, even when I saw her. I would have loaned her one of my many backless form fitting dresses from the 80’s if she’d only asked. I would have also given her some hair and makeup tips. I’ve never heard of this group or this song. Wow you stumped me, but like I said, if she’d known me at the time maybe things would have turned out better for them.
On another note I did notice the old fashioned safety razor – yep the kind that took chunks out of my legs back in the good old days.
And your cats. OMG they’re so cute.
Well, this was around the same time as Annie Lennox, so even the girls were going for that androgynous look. Or maybe she was keeping all those nicks from the razor covered up…
Only one of the cats (The belated Spilly on the left) is mine. The other cat is my sister’s, and she took that photo when she was catsitting the two while my house got fogged for fleas. It’s such a cool photo!
Your video wouldn’t play in my country….I’ll have to check it out on U tube. A beauty of a day here, 52 and the sun shining and windy!
The sun? You mean it’s still out there somewhere? I thought it had exploded or something…
Ha! ha! It must of exploded over night because it disappeared this morning!
That one can stay lost to be honest. It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t good either. It just “was”.
I’m with Juliette with regards to the singer. She has that look that a lot of guys had in the 80s pop scene – a bit makeup-y and long hair.
Just like the male singers of the 80’s wanted to look like one of the girls, so did the female singers want to look like one of the guys.
