Chasing Milestones

The squirrels can run, but they can’t hide from my Saturday feature.

It’s been 69 months (Insert Beavis & Butthead laugh here) since I began my Saturday Squirrel feature on my blog… showing off the very best, worst, weirdest, and most adorable photos in my vast sciurine collection that has been a hobby of mine these past six years.  According to the records my blog meticulously keeps for me, this is my 300th post under that category.  Now, I tagged a few pre-SS squirrel photo posts under the Saturday Squirrel label, and there have even been a few posts in the series that didn’t feature squirrels at all.  But let’s just say that I’ve finally reached 300 weekly posts in The Nest’s longest continuous running series.  That’s not too shabby.  And it even coincides with Evil Squirrel’s Nest’s infamous “Fake Blogaversary.”  If you don’t know that story, WP kindly reminds me every May 26th that I got started with them on this day in 2011, when in fact, I never set foot on this site until my REAL blogaversary on Christmas Eve.  May 26, 2011 happens to be the day I signed up with GRAVATAR for a (non-WP) baseball blog I was following…

Oh well, you didn’t come here to hear me drone on about WordPress’ stupidity.  It’s Saturday and you want to take in the beauty of squirrels like you’ve gotten to do every week since October 2012.  Enjoy!  And now I can begin chasing down Saturday Squirrel post #400 sometime in 2020…

Oops! I better be more careful with all this chasing!

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. I too have a long-standing LUV of squirrels so I’m a big fan of your regular Saturday squirrel-filled posts. I never have a camera in hand when I run into a photo-worthy specimen however so thanks for feeding the need those of us who are squirrel-o-manics have to see them doing all the fun things they do!

Wow, what a lot of Saturday Squirrels! This pair look like they’re having fun. I hope the careless one didn’t plummet to the ground.

  3. They’re sooooooo cute. I always enjoy this post and look forward to seeing the Saturday Squirrel. Congratulations on the 300th post and I look forward to the next 300 Saturday Squirrels.

  4. That’s quite an anniversary. We watched a couple of squirrels chasing each other on large tree on our morning walk. It was not one of those ‘let’s play’ kind of chases and the one being chased finally bailed and jumped onto a nearby rooftop. The victorious brutish thug sat smiling on the branch and I swear he flipped off the vanquished. Made me wonder what prompted that whole skirmish to begin with. Squirrels apparently lead a complicated life. Have a great holiday weekend.

    • There are rivalry chases, there are lover chases, and then there are chases they seem to do just for the heck of it. No matter the reason, they are always fun to watch…

Congratulations on all the squirrel posts! I love seeing them! 🙂

  6. I love how you get them in action. I’ve gotten that once or twice, but yours are clear enough to not look just like a blur.

    • It takes some practice, some patience, and a halfway decent camera to get good action shots. Oh, and also some sunlight helps. I get a lot of blurs like the squirrel hanging from the branch, but a few of them turn out, and those are usually very rewarding…

Congrats on #300 Squirrely Squirrel photos! I’ve only been able to capture a whooping 2 or 3 ! Your the Squirrel King ES ! Have a Great Sunday!

    • I think I’ve got over 3000 squirrel photos on my Photobucket account… I just use the good ones here! Of course, I purposely try to take pictures of squirrels unlike most (sane) people…

Congratulations, LB, on this momentous milestone! From my new-ish (going on 3 years now) home in VA we are able to enjoy the antics of our own scurry. They feast on the spill-over from the bird feeders and on the bread crusts and pizza bones we put out. We also have a few chipmunks in the yard to add to the fun. Herjosie’s eyesight is fading, and she’s not as quick as she once was, but her ears still perk up when I yell, “Squirrel!” Best wishes for another 300 posts!

    • Nancy!!!! I had no idea you’d un-Soonered yourself and moved to Virginia! I’m happy that you have squirrels to make you happy! And Herjosie….we know like her mentor Annie she secretly loves them!

Congrats! I’ve been here for at least 290 of them, for sure.

I bow down to your commitment to blog every Saturday! Wow…that’s awesome! I’ve enjoyed your posts. I’ve got a few evil ones myself. Been watching a baby one run into my out door bunny’s pen and eat his food! A tiny wild baby bunny goes in there too! Snacks for all, I guess! Congrats to you and your fabulous blog! Weekend is off to a great start! Enjoy yours! Koko 🙂
