#193 – Basebrawl

Photo taken: September 7, 2011

Among major sports, baseball is nowhere near the contact sport of many of its rivals that are popular in American culture… but that doesn’t mean tempers don’t flare from time to time among millionaires.  The top of the 9th inning of this game between the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals got a bit hairy when Brewers outfielder and all around jerk Nyjer Morgan took exception to pitcher Chris Carpenter striking him out.  Morgan is among the crowd of navy blue shirts in the background of my photo being restrained by his teammates, while Carpenter, working on a complete game shutout, casually throws a few warmup tosses off the mound to stay loose until the fracas dies down.  In the foreground of the photo is the Brewers bullpen running into the fire because…… well, baseball brawls have to involve everyone on the team for some reason.  It’s an unwritten rule.  This isn’t the best ballpark brawl I’ve ever witnessed by far, but it is the only one I’ve captured on film…

    I remember this! Nice brawl.

  3. You sure they weren’t discussing a teammates wedding registry?

Fight fight fight… um, I mean, oh dear, how terrible.

  5. There’s a lot of testosterone flying around out there!

  6. Garry is always impressed by your knowledge of the game. He thinks it might almost rival his own. Almost.

    • Garry knows a lot more about the “golden age” of the game than I do. I really only excel at baseball trivia of the past four decades, with a specialty in the 1990’s when I was all baseball all the time…
