I apparently have a particular fondness for photographing statuary given the number of such pictures I have in my archive. There’s just something really….. unsettling about even the most benign of monuments. The first of a handful of sculptures to appear in this countdown is this lovely tribute to former Kansas City Royals owner Ewing Kauffman and his wife Muriel, which can be found on the outfield concourse of the stadium which bears their name. A nice couple by all accounts, and they sure look happy to see you. Wait a minute…. they’re not looking at you, they’re looking…… up. Why are they looking upwards? I have always assumed they are welcoming the alien ships to our planet. Hopefully they come in peace. And if not, hopefully Muriel’s overexuberant expression can disarm them…
I bet it can ;O)))
The smile that saved the world…
Maybe they’re cheering a championship?
Well, they did get to see one while they were alive. Though it’s possible they may have seen more aliens than banners in KC…
WOW – I hope it doesn’t rain… they may drown. Oh my bad! They’re statues. Snorts and rolls with piggy laughter. XOXO – Bacon
Gotta clean the pigeonshit off of them somehow. I hope their mouths are closed…
It always helps disarm (or maybe …charm?) the aliens when you smile a lot.
That’s how the “agents” trick them into coming back to Area 51 with them…
Bwahaha. Just in time for the next movie release of the Fourth of July, Part 12.
I hope the aliens aren’t like those in “Mars Attacks” ack ack. Well, unless they, too go to Washington DC & we all have copies of Slim Whitman’s “Indian Love Call”.
A Mars Attacks style cleansing of our government doesn’t sound like a bad idea right now…
If Muriel’s expression doesn’t disarm the aliens, surely her wrinkled stockings will!
Pam
After all those years out in the elements, you’d think she’d put on a brand new pair. And her hubby’s tie looks a bit stiff…
Must be more than one alien ship too because Ewing and Muriel don’t appear to be looking up at the same place! Statues are rather creepy and unsettling.
It may be one of those really big city sized ships like in Independence Day. I just don’t get the point of having them looking up in this statue…. there’s no reason they’d be doing that unless they’re in a hole!
They are thinking of joining Trump’s new Space Rangers and are going to sing “Up in the air, Junior Birdmen.” No, really.
They would make a good Han and Leia….. not.
They will come in peace. Have you seen the part of South Park, where the boys find out that our planet is just one live show in their TV, and it is not famous, because we have not enough wars, murdes…so the show will end and this planet will be destroyed. Think about that!
I haven’t watched South Park since its early episodes, but that sounds like the one of their nutty plots. I would think the ratings on this planet have to have gone up a bit lately with how crazy things have been…
Come on down, we’re resource-rich and ripe for conquest!
Then as soon as they come out of the ship……………………………. BLAM!!!!!!!!!!!!! That will teach them to visit planet Earth.
Ewing & Muriel look overly happy to me. I think it’s because they know how much money they’re raking in from all the baseball fans who’ll pay way. too. much. to see a game. That’s what I read into their expressions. I might be cynical.
That could be, though the game was a bit more affordable in their time. They didn’t have to pay George Brett $300,000,000 just to play ball…
