#182 – Goose Hunt

Photo taken: September 19, 2012

The Nintendo Entertainment System was all the rage among the gamers of my generation thirty years ago, and had a whole litany of classic 8-bit video games that are still fondly remembered by those of us who ruined our thumbs for hours upon hours a day on those clunky controllers of old.  One of those iconic NES titles was called Duck Hunt, a primitive first person shooter where you must kill flying ducks and clay targets.  I’ll be damned if this photo I took of two geese at my Detroit hotel flying away in tandem doesn’t look like it could be a still from that game.  I guess I should put down the camera and whip out my Zapper.  I don’t want that damned dog laughing at me again…

  1. I know ZIP about Nintendo I must admit but I do remember that everyone (but me) had one and it was the beginning of the “addicted to games” period of time…….those geese flying across the field of vision there DO look like tempting targets for a video game though!

    • It’s weird how their wings are in the exact same position… just how it seems that birds that fly in tandem are all moving in sync. I would get bored with watching the leader and just start doing my own thing!

My kids, especially my son, LOVED Nintendo. They all loved Duck Hunt. I was against the gun part so I didn’t want them to play, but my husband at the time was all for it. Anyway that great (camera) shot you got here is a good target for the game.

Those geese can move pretty darn fast if you hit one in the ass with a golf ball accidently.

    • LOL!!!! And you would know that from experience, I’d assume!

Yes! They relentlessly chase you. It might even have been my misfortune to have hit her baby in the ass…while the rest of the foursome laughed hysterically I was running for my life!! Never hit a goose in the ass with anything is my advice.

  3. What a cool shot. Now if only we could get rid of all the Canadian geese that migrated here and never left #livingthegoodlife. Bet there’s not a ‘green card’ amongst them, though I sure see that green stuff on my shoes whenever I go to the park!

  4. Dogs can be evil and you can tell they are laughing because they hide their grins behind their paws. Cats don’t bother to hide. They just sit there and look at you and you KNOW they think you are stupid.

I’m glad you only shot them with a camera. I never had a NES 😦

Don’t be zapping the beloved Canadian Goose! lol..
