Without wasting a lot of time scouring Google (and then probably still not being right), I do not know what species of primate this fine creature is. He isn’t a squirrel monkey, but he reminds me so much of the squirrels I’ve taken thousands of pictures of over the years. Seriously…. except for the face and his size, he is extremely sciurine looking! That long, bottle brush furred tail is the clincher. I won’t ever see a squirrel like this scurrying through my trees unless there is an escapee from the zoo, where I took this photo. But just in case, I’ll remember to keep some bananas on hand. I don’t want to make the cabbage mistake again….

He looks very squirrel-ish indeed…..minus the beard of course. I’ve seen squirrels with a fairly “bottle-brush-like” tail but not QUITE like this!

His tail actually looks a lot like the summer tails I see on a few squirrels… where the fur stands up so straight and is so thin, that you can clearly see the actual tail itself. I caught one on my recent park trip where the tail fur is practically invisible, and I’ll show him off eventually…
They say everyone has a doppelgänger. Maybe this guy is the one of the squirrel that lies in the street?
I think the monkey was too active to be taking breaks out in the middle of the street. I think the zoo staff would frown on such behavior out of their monkeys as well…
I’d venture to say it is a grivet, or a vervet monkey.

Oh my goodness! I clicked the link before I saw your secondary comment and noticed right away that he very literally has blue balls. I would have absolutely noticed that if this monkey, or any monkey in the exhibit, had such brightly colored privates. As for a lemur, they had their own exhibit outside of the primate house, so I know it’s not one of them…
It could as well be a lemur.
I wonder what it means when his tail is pointed round like that? Like he’s about to open fire. Though possibly the “projectiles” will come out the back end…
Except it isn’t a lemur, or at least, not any kind shown in the big book of lemurs. It’s some kind of monkey. Given the long tail, probably from South America. I’m not enthusiastic enough to spend a lot of time looking it up, but I’m pretty sure you’d find it if you were really dedicated. To the monkey, that is.
