#164 – Incoming!

Photo taken: August 24, 2017

Unlike children who usually have parents around to whip their behind put them in timeout for their bad behavior, there is nobody around to make squirrels play nice with each other.  This isn’t recess on the playground… it’s welcome to the jungle, and you’re gonna die.  You can’t turn you back for a minute to bury a nut without some bushy tailed bully charging up on you to throw his weight around.  It can be hard to capture a good squirrel chase/fight scene… but this is one of the better ones I’ve gotten.  Or at least, one of the better preludes to a furry fracas I’ve immortalized…

  1. They do seem to enjoy a good chase – I love when they wind up/down and around and round trees in their frenzy to catch one another at speeds that boggles the mind. They are the BEST acrobats EVER.

LOL! This is awesome! The incoming squirrel looks like a missile and the other one has barely had time to glance up and notice. What funny little creatures.

    • It’s the missile and the “oh crap!” glance of the target that makes me love this picture! I can’t even remember what happened after I took this… I was probably enjoying the result on my camera’s screen while this was playing out!

  3. draliman says:

Does the guy hiding behind the tree trip the other one up as he speeds past?

  4. I never saw squirrels actually fight, but they did spend a lot of time yelling at each other!

    • I’ve put out enough food to see plenty of squirrel fights. They get extremely territorial about my corn cob feeder (Which after 9 years of growth, my oak tree finally expelled from its trunk a couple weeks ago… so now I just leave the corn at the base of the tree)…

  5. Squirrels are VERY territorial and thus do not play well with others.
