I don’t have much of a front yard given the wedge shape of my property, but for about an hour or two six years ago, I literally had NO front yard. The local power company Ameren, which had taken a ton of abuse over an unprecedented string of widespread weather related power outages in the St. Louis area from July 2006 to January 2007, embarked on a tree trimming campaign that would that would rival the destruction of the rain forests. They made it to my neighborhood in September 2012, and buzzsawed any limb or branch that was even remotely a threat to falling on a power line. My end of the street location gave the cutting crew a logical place to store its bounty before feeding it to the wood chipper. But it sure is a good thing I didn’t have to actually go anywhere that day, because even Jason Voorhees’ machete would have never cleared through that thick jungle outside my front door…

Now I have the movie theme playing in my head!
WOW……..that is quite a pile of trimmings – I hope there were no squirrel nests in there!
Pam
I hope not either… but given everything that got chopped down, I’m pretty sure some squirrels got displaced. Unfortunately, they lost this eminent domain battle…
Darn those trees and their power line-cutting ways. Kill them, kill them all! Or put your city power lines underground like everyone else, Ameren…
There’s too much existing above ground power grid infrastructure already outside of housing developments from the past couple decades. It’s probably cheaper to butcher everyone’s trees instead…
I don’t understand why we don’t have underground lines. We certainly have terrible weather, so I don’t understand. And they also periodically mutilate all the trees along the road.
What is it about power companies? I think their employment ads read “Must be willing to butcher trees and leave droppings everywhere.”
I have another photo coming up a bit later that shows off some of their handiwork. It’s like Jason from Friday the 13th trying to do hedge trimming…
