Squirrels generally don’t have a reputation for good behavior, particularly when it comes to dealing with each other. There’s a definite territorial, alpha characteristic to squirrels who will chase off and even fight off any invaders on their turf or with an eye towards their treasure. My corn feeder was a frequent focal point of many of these furry pissing matches, as one squirrel usually declared the food to be HIS and heaven help the hapless, hungry squirrel who tried to sneak in a nibble. Here’s one of these food fights in action. I have no idea who has the upper hand…. er paw in this battle, but it doesn’t seem like there’s even much left to fight for.
I wish we had some squirrels around here to watch. I see some once in awhile in other parts of town. We just have the outside kitties, and they are pretty entertaining sometimes with their play fighting, rolling around and pouncing on each other. Sometimes there is a real cat fight, though!
Hmmmmm, the outside kitties may have something to do with why you don’t have squirrels near you! The squirrels by me squawk like crazy from the trees whenever Gypsy or Sewie are lingering around….
A real furry flurry! 🐿
Squirrel fighting is much more real than rasslin’….
They can be quite fierce racing after a fellow squirrel on a tree trunk. It’s a wonder there aren’t more casualties.
You could get a video camera and make a documentary and call it “Whirling Fur”. You have to do this as that’s too good a name to waste.
These two look SERIOUS about who gets those final few kernels. “Good to the last drop….ummm I mean…kernel” ??

Who says good photos have to have crisp focus to be good? This blurred action shot is awesome! I had to look closely because it almost looked like there were more than two squirrels in there!
As fun as it might be to see them frozen mid-fight, the blur does give this one that sense of action that shows they’re doing more than saying hello to each other.
