Nothing compels us to whip out our picture taking machines quite like oddballs. So when I came home from work one morning and there was a cute, but definitely odd little donkey lawn ornament sitting in one of my neighbor’s yards, I had to capture it for perpetuity. And it’s a good thing I did since it was gone that evening and never appeared again. I have no idea what the story behind him is, but I’d have gladly taken that stubborn ass home and made him a part of Shelf Critter Theatre… once I’d made a unicorn out of him, that is.
I bet the donkey disappeared to the same place like my flamingo… one night and it was gone… but I still have his seasonal clothes and I hope once he comes back… maybe there is a worldwide bad-taste police on patrol at night, who seized our trashures …
If the bad taste police worked at night while I was at work, I think they’d have hauled off with my entire shelf by now…
I wonder where you purchase a lawn donkey? No reason, idle curiosity. Nice photo.
I would guess there is someplace out there that you could buy one individually (I mean, I have a skunk holding a rain gauge, after all). But I’m thinking that donkey may have possibly been part of a large nativity set…
He’s run off to frolic in the open fields…
I’ll have to call the police and tell them there’s a wild ass on the loose…
It’s so cute but it looks kind of lost and lonely there all by itself!
I could fix that by giving him Mitzi’s number…
I used to see those a lot back in when I was a kid. They looked like they were made of concrete and often had a little wagon for annual flowers. Those thing weighed a ton so if it got pinched, I hope the thief got a hernia for his efforts.
I didn’t think of that, but it does look like one of those donkeys! I don’t think he was stolen, just put back in storage or wherever. Maybe he was their kid’s toy? I don’t know…
That’s a heavy toy to bring out for 24 hours. That kid must have been Shrek!
ody N biskit….itza sad state oh a fairz no one can set stuff out side with out it bee in ruined ore stolen…..naybor ladee cross de street had a wishin well taken …her gran kidz made it for her….
😦
That is sad. We had plenty of things stolen out of our yard back in my old hood. The only thing I’ve lost here has been a air conditioner though. I don’t think the donkey was stolen… just left out for a day and then back to wherever he’d been hiding.
I really WANT a miniature donkey — or mini horse. Garry feels we have enough traffic without a real hoofed creature galloping around the dining room table, but he’s such a spoil sport.
That would be guaranteed to add a lot of fun to your house. A miniature donkey might even be able to keep Duke in line. I’m not sure if he’d fit through your doggie door, though…
Glad you got a picture of the cute little donkey. Best to take a photo when you see something cool, because if you don’t, it’ll be gone.
Exactly! There’s a few good photos I’d have never gotten if I wouldn’t have acted immediately…
It’s always possible that the donkey was placed there by someone who was making a STATEMENT about the occupants of the house????????
Pam
LOL! They do have a lot of parties there. I’d hate to think I live next to a bunch of asses though…
