This is one of those photos where you might notice something isn’t quite right, but can’t put your finger on what exactly it is. It’s a squirrel on the move, no doubt about that. But how are we used to seeing squirrels travel along the ground? It’s almost always by either (literally) leaps and bounds, or running around like their tail’s on fire. This squirrel is just…… walking. Like your dog or cat would! It’s a very normal looking shot if it were most animals, but because it’s a squirrel it just looks so weird! Who says the typically hyperactive squirrel can’t occasionally go out for a leisurely stroll on the pavement?
maybe it’s a model and every street is the catwalk?
Right Said Squirrel!
Taking his time…..maybe looking for just the right spot out of the way of humans, to have his snack he’s carrying around!
Pam
Probably. Or wanting to know who put all this concrete over his soft grass…
I can almost picture a squirrel harness on that little guy!
Walking a squirrel would sure catch a lot of attention. And he’d be a hit at the dog park…
He seems to have a nut in his mouth. He’s probably worried he’ll drop it or choke to death or something.
It could also be a nut bomb that will explode if it touches the ground, and he’s trying to remove it from the premises. Also…. we can’t see all those invisible laser beam motion detectors he’s carefully stepping over…
You’re right. It does look strange. Really hot day?
I wouldn’t think so… I never go to the park for photo shoots on really hot days because the squirrels don’t come out. That concrete belongs to the park’s skateboarding place, and I think the walking may have to do with the fact that hopping and jumping on concrete does not feel to good even with paw pads…
This looks so weird! On the rare occasion when I do see squirrels walk, they usually seem to creep, low to the ground like an alligator, never upright like a dog or cat!
