Of all the odd weather phenomena that are possible, or even impossible… not much looks weirder than when it’s pouring down rain while the sun is brightly shining. Could Mother Nature possibly be sending more of a mixed message? Of course, the rain clouds aren’t always blocking the sun… and the range of where it’s precipitating does have a boundary. How many times have you seen in raining just across the street while it was still dry and pleasant where you were standing? It’s kind of hard to capture rain on digital film in cloudy conditions, but it really shows up in the sunlight against dark objects in the background. I’m not sure what my skunk Rainy would think of this bizarre situation…

we just have this weather… the sun is out but it rains… maybe it is an advice for mother nature to look twice before you bring the laundry out ;O)
The weather guys probably put her up to it so that their forecasts will always be right. It may have rained, but you can’t complain it wasn’t sunny.
I love when this happens….it’s a definite sign that Mom Nature is as confused as WE all are about the weather this past year. Who knows what this signals for winter……eeeek.

I’ve heard the fuzzy caterpillars have been spotted already. We haven’t had a good snow in several years, so we’re overdue for a nasty winter. Maybe the sun will stay out in the blizzard, though…

I look EVERY TIME it does this, and never see a rainbow! Only when I don’t have my camera ready….
I have the same problem with birds and critters. Perfect poses…no camera! Lol
That is weird, and looks weird too. We have a saying when raining and shining at the same time that mouse’s have wedding. I don’t know the reason for this saying. I’m afraid of winter, so dry summer, so we will have a snow cover over the roofs.
I tried to look it up, but found nothing. Some sayings are maybe better left to be mysterious…
I’m sure Rainy would rush off to where it was raining only for it to stop and start raining where she was a moment ago…

We often have this type of undecided weather in April but I don’t think I’ve ever been able to capture a photo of it. That was a good idea to get the tree in front of the sun like that. That looks really cool and really messed up, weather-wise!
Yesterday we had rain showers and wildfire smoke, two things that I thought weren’t supposed to be possible together. But now, with wildfires in every direction, we can have both apparently. The result is not as pretty and magical-looking as your photo. 🙁
I would imagine not. As bad as persistent smoke smells, the thought of it mixed with rain is even worse. Kind of like wet dog…
AND if you are lucky, you will also see a rainbow. Sun + rain has always equaled rainbows around here.
It’s supposed to be that way, but I’ve never caught one here before where I have access to my camera. I think the rain has to be between you and where the rainbow would be with the sun at your back, but I’m not sure.
Those kinds of storms always make me smile.
