Just how do squirrels get such a firm grip on the bark of a tree to so easily scale and descend them? Well, get a good look at the talons on this tree climbing squirrel! Freddy Krueger didn’t have nails THAT long! That’s traction this squirrel can count on in all kinds of weather. When your nest is a hundred feet in the air, no amount of gripping power is too much. So this week’s Saturday Squirrel will pass on the manicure, thank you. But if you’re ever in need of a good back scratcher, he’s your squirrel…
Have a great weekend everyone!
That little fella may be a good back scratcher but his manicure bills must be out of the world.
I wouldn’t manicure those nails if I had to climb trees for a living!
Wow, back lacerator more like.
As long as they don’t go through the spinal cord, it’ll be perfectly fine….
At least he can’t get in trouble for concealed weapons…………..no hiding those things!
Pam
They’ll only take his claws away from him when they pry them from his cold dead paws… and even that won’t be easy to do!
They look like a desperate housewife’s talons…
I imagine running a squirrel’s nest would make anyone nuts…
Ha, ha, ha!
They will climb even tree covered in ice. Those claws are strong and cut deep. That’s what keeps happening to our cables, too. They chew AND they claw.
If I had teeth and claws like a squirrel, I’m sure I’d do a lot of chewing and clawing as well..
Surprisingly, and luckily for me, squirrels don’t sink those claws in deep when climbing people, at least they haven’t the few times they’ve jumped on me. Their touch was very light!
I’ve never had a squirrel come near me to get to experience their claws firsthand… but I remember how Ody and Spilly would climb up my leg when they were kittens. Their claws weren’t really sharp then, though. If Ody tried it now, I’m pretty sure I’d be screaming bloody murder…
