#102 – Bombs Away!

Photo taken: June 19, 2014

Here is another great squirrel photo that came from my set I used to construct the sciurine soldier of fortune tale “An Army Of One” four years ago.  Does it not look like he’s covertly lying in the trees watching with glee as his target succumbs to whatever it was he threw at them?  Yes, squirrels will throw objects at you from up above… I’ve experienced this a few times when I’m taking photos of them at the park.  Yes, I would imagine they get some sense of satisfaction out of the deed.  Well, I know I would if I could wreak death from up above.  The next time you go out for a walk, remember to beware of falling objects… and maybe intentionally thrown missiles as well.

  1. So it was your neighborhood squirrels that were featured in the recent Farmer’s insurance ad?

Aw, maybe he’s just reaching out to shake you by the hand. “Hi, I’m Sam Squirrel, and you…?”

So cute! And it does look like he just threw something and is watching it hit its target. I probably already told you this story but, once while I was out hiking, I had a squirrel throw a mushroom at me. And then it gave me the harshest scolding of my life!

    • You must not have told me before, because I’m sure I’d have remembered a story about a thrown mushroom! That’s a new one on me. I didn’t even know squirrels had a preference for fungi…

      • Trisha says:

I don’t know if squirrels eat mushrooms or not. Maybe it intended to use it as a missile all along. It was a good shot. It seemed like it might have had a lot of practice at hitting unsuspecting hikers with flying objects. I’m just glad it didn’t haul a rock up that tree!

  4. Oh boy can I identify with this one……if I’m sitting back in our woods keeping an eye on Ted as he snuffles around in the leaves, both of us get PELTED with acorns by the squadron of squirrel terrorists up in our oaks. Their aim is fabulous and those acorns HURT!!! But this guy of yours looks friendly – it’s a SUPER photo.

  5. It is a most handsome squirrel.
