#95 – The Fandom Menace

I’m not exactly a Star Wars fan, but I do have a somewhat sentimental attachment to the first of the prequel movies that was released in 1999, The Phantom Menace, simply because it was the first HUGE movie event Mecca promoted during my employment there… and in fact, may still be the biggest insofar as the amount of licensed merchandise we received to display.  Well, when I accidentally wandered into “Star Wars Night” at Target Field on my baseball trip to Minneapolis, who should I run into but the character who may have been one of the most overrated villains in Hollywood history, Darth Maul.  He was the badass new age Vader of every Phantom Menace trailer despite not really getting a whole lot of actual screen time in the film.  And why is he looking at me like that?  Am I about to meet a certain death by his infamous double-edged lightsabre?  Where is Jar Jar to assist me?

I was about to ask the same question – where is Jar Jar? Surely the majority of persons attending would have wanted to dress up as The Phantom Menace’s premier character?
    Funny post title!

He looks friendly. Maybe he just needed a hug…? 😜

  3. All I can say is – “if looks could kill”…….EEEEEK!

  4. I liked the first Star Wars movie, but after that, I lost interest. I feel so … lost and unprepared. No one appreciates me. Sob, sob.
