Veggies are the bane of almost every child, who’d rather eat the same yummy junk food their parents chow down on while they think the kids aren’t watching. Those green plant products may be good for you and have vitamins covering every letter of the alphabet…. but yuck! They either have bad taste or no taste or just look like they’re disgusting. Squirrels are vegetarians by nature, and though the most well known part of their diet contains tree nuts… they aren’t afraid to munch on the local flora either. This squirrel is making mama proud by eating his greens, and looking quite happy while doing so. He’ll grow up to be strong and healthy and grow hair on his chest… well, more hair on his chest, I guess. This Saturday Squirrel deserves recognition from the FDA for setting a good example for all the boys and squirrels out there who would rather chuck their spinach in the nearest wastebasket…
Have a healthy weekend everyone!
Squirrels are vegetarians? I didn’t know that. The things I learn here!
If squirrels were meat eaters, I don’t think those sneaky cats would be as brave as they are in chasing them…
No doubt this squirrel’s Mom would be proud if she saw him munching away on his greens (as long as the green thing isn’t something that’s rotten or covered in mold of course).
Pam
Well, with all the moss growing at the park (Especially with this rainy year), that might be a batch of super yucky greens. But a rolling squirrel gathers no moss…
Yum, grass. I’ll get right on that.
He does look like he’s enjoying his meal, though!
Who knows, it may even have a few ants on it to add flavor…
What a cutie. Nom nom nom
Yummy in the tummy!
He does look quite happy chewing on whatever sort of green he’s got there! It must not be kale. I’ve got a couple of kale plants growing and the squirrels harvest the leaves but don’t eat them. They just leave them laying in the dirt to wilt. However, the carrot, beet and squash seeds I planted last weekend seem to have disappeared completely!
That’s so neat that you have a crew of squirrel harvesters! It’s a shame they don’t actually wait until the crops are actually ready before harvesting them… but I’m sure they mean well.
The ones in my neighborhood are opportunistic at best. Compost bin, thank you for the left overs, dog food in an unattended bowl, why yes, don’t mind if I do. When they start filching raspberries, I have to draw the line though. 💣
Squirrels are omnivores, which means they like to eat plants and meat. Squirrels mainly eat fungi, seeds, nuts and fruits, but they will also munch on eggs, small insects, caterpillars, small animals and even young snakes
