Wild Hair, Don’t Care

My fur stylist rocks, thank you.

Since we got a small coating of that dreaded white stuff last night (One of our earliest snows I can remember), I went back to January 2014 in my squirrel archive looking for this week’s Saturday Squirrel featured photo since I know I have a bunch of snowy squirrels from that month.  My eye was drawn to this photo…. which doesn’t have any visible snow in it, but does show a squirrel with a very hilariously placed tail.  Doesn’t it look like he has some really crazy hairstyle?  Perhaps he and Don King go to the same barber?  Of course, that’s really just the tip of his fuzzy tail curled up over the top of his head… probably trying to stay warm.  But looks are everything, and this squirrel looks like the king of bedhead.  We won’t pass judgment on whether he’s making Vidal Sassoon look good or not…

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. Perhaps it’s the equivalent of one of those furry Russian hats they wear to keep their heads warm…..he needs a matching coat though.

  2. I’ve often envied squirrels their built in umbrella/foul weather hood.

    • It comes in handy… though unfortunately you can’t just drop it off at the door when you go inside. I guess squirrels have to wring it out on the doormat when they return to the nest…

Great photo. No snow here, but it’s nice and cold finally.

  4. As always this is just too cute. The cooler weather is making my squirrels extra active and fluffy.

    • I hope our squirrels got fluffy in a hurry since it went from summer to some semblance of Fall to winter in about three weeks. It’s going to snow later on today (After already snowing Friday night). I wish I could grow out extra fluffy…

My hair is wild most of the time and I’ve had to learn not to care! 🙂

So cute! I love how fluffy the squirrels get in the winter. I’m jealous you’re getting snow already! With El Niño and another blob of warm water in the Pacific, it’s looking likely that we’ll have yet another snow-free Boring Non-Winter here.

    • We’re looking at accumulating snow tonight, and it’s basically been below 40 degrees ever since Friday evening. Snow is rare enough for us this early in November, but the cold snap that’s come with it is really unseasonal and annoying!

      • Trisha says:

I’m so jealous! I love cold weather, possibly because I’ve felt deprived of it most of my life. I don’t think we’ve broken any records for cold temperatures around here since the great Snowmageddon back in 2008. Try to get some squirrel in snow pictures for me, if you can!

      • Just because you asked, I opened the back window this morning and froze to try and get some good snow squirrel pictures! I threw out a corn cob (Loose, since my feeder got eaten up by the trunk) and some shelled peanuts. There was one squirrel, and the little bastard grabbed the corn cob and ran up the tree with it… without even letting me get a good shot of him doing it! There will be a snow squirrel come Saturday, though!

      • Trisha says:

Well, that corn-thieving little bastard! I appreciate you trying to get a squirrel-in -snow picture for me. Even though you didn’t get a picture, your story about the attempt gave me a good chuckle. I hope future visitors to your food stash are more cooperative so you don’t get hypothermic while trying to capture them!
