#7 – Cornholing In Cleveland

Photo taken: September 23, 2009

This is the only photo in the upper echelon of my countdown that doesn’t really have that WOW factor to it… but if you’ve been following my blog for a while, you might be aware of its significance and how it taught me a new meaning of a word that I thought was merely an immature Beavis and Butthead term (huh huh huh!!).  I was walking through downtown Cleveland on my baseball trip there nine years ago killing time before the game and I passed this guy who was clearly some type of businessman on break indulging in a kids game they had set up on the sidewalk.  After I passed by him, I impulsively decided to sneak a photo of him playing beanbag toss… and only after I posted the photo in another online forum did someone pipe up that the dude was cornholing.  Cornholing!?!?  Really?  Yep, that’s what they apparently call beanbag toss in Ohio, and it’s supposedly very popular there.  I’ve rerun the photo of Cornhole Man on my blog many times… and something neat about the picture that I didn’t notice before using it on my blog is that I caught the moment right before the beanbag he was tossing landed.  Whether or not the bag entered the cornhole and earned him a ringer?  bullseye?  Yahtzee?…. well, that is something that we’ll never know.

  1. cornholing … LOL good ;O)

  2. Yep – that’s what they call that beanbag game here too. Interesting huh? I say he missed with that toss by the way!

    • It looks like the toss is going to come up short… but that could be deceiving… or perhaps a little squirrel will pop out of the hole and drag the bag in for a win/win (The cornholer gets a point and the squirrel gets some corn!)

  3. It’s a big deal with millennials here in Colorado too. In fact, it seems likethey compete on how they’re painted on the platform too.

  4. Corn holing is a summer picnic staple up here as well.

Very popular here under that name with the younger crowd. My daughter had a set up at her wedding for during the reception! Didn’t Beavis and Butthead have a woman called Cornholova?

    • Beavis has an alter ego called The Great Cornholio, that’s probably what you’re thinking of. I wouldn’t be surprised if that didn’t have something to do with the popularity of the game and name with the younger crowd that I was obviously unaware of!

Judging by the photo I’d say he’s missed. I’m sure once he gets overexcited and puts someone’s eye out Health and Safety will be around to ruin everyone’s fun.

  7. Why cornholing? Is there corn in the bags? Is this some vaguely ritualistic construct involving gods and spiritualism?

    • I believe I found that the bags in the original game contained corn, thus the name. We have so much corn here in the Midwest, I guess we have to do something with the excess besides put it in our gas tanks and feed it to the squirrels…

“I am The Great Cornholio! I need TP for my bunghole!” How funny that cornholing is actually a thing!
